It's no secret that teenagers are especially sensitive human beings. They're going through a lot physically and mentally.

On top of it all, they have to deal with hectic things like high school, first loves, heartbreaks, extracurricular activities, social events, etc.

So, that's why it's important to keep in mind that when raising or spending time with teenagers, you need to be careful when it comes to what you say about things that could make them more sensitive, like their appearance.

One man accidentally accused his teenage daughter, who has been struggling with acne, of not washing her face when she asked to see a dermatologist.

He's 42 and has a 16-year-old daughter named Jo. He had Jo with his ex-wife, and after they got divorced, he became Jo's primary caretaker, as his ex-wife has to travel a lot for work.

Over the last year, Jo has been complaining about her developing acne on her face.

"I have gotten her multiple types of face wash and moisturizer, but her acne hasn't cleared up," he explained.

"I figured it was just part of her being part of a teenager and that maybe she wasn't always washing her face, and that's why it hasn't cleared up."

Recently, Jo approached him and asked if he could take her to a dermatologist. She said that none of her skincare products seemed to work, so he told her she probably needed to wash her face more often.

"Jo then told me she's self-conscious about her acne, and she would appreciate going to the dermatologist and seeing if they could do something for her," he recalled.

"So, I asked her if she actually washes her face every day, twice a day, or if she only does it when she feels like it."

Jo then started crying and ran up to her room. He was confused, as he didn't think he said anything wrong.

Less than an hour later, he got an angry phone call from his ex, who called him a jerk for accusing Jo of not washing her face.

His ex said it could be Jo's teenage hormones that are causing her breakouts and that she'd take it upon herself to set up with a dermatologist once she was back in town.

He still doesn't think he did anything to deserve such a scolding from his ex, but she and Jo have been angry with him ever since.

How can he make things right with his daughter?
