After you finally say, “I do,” the engagement period is often an enchanting and thrilling time in your life. It’s filled with love, excitement, planning, and, of course, the all-important ring.

But before you get lost in the sparkle, you need to figure out one crucial detail: your ring size.

Thankfully, you don’t even have to head to a jeweler to figure it out, either. You can simply find your ring size right at home with a little bit of patience and creativity.

Finding Your Ring Size At Home

All you need to do is a piece of string, a ruler, and perhaps a ring that you already own and love. You’ll only need these simple items that are likely lying around your house.

After gathering your materials, take the piece of string and wrap it around your ring finger– where your engagement ring will live.

Make sure it’s snug but not too tight since you don’t want to cut off circulation. Mark the spot where the string meets and then straighten the string out alongside a ruler. This length in millimeters will correspond to ring size.

If you have a ring that already fits well, you can also place it on a ruler to measure its inside diameter. Then, by comparing this measurement to a ring size chart, you will be able to narrow down your size.

Keep in mind that finger size can change depending on the weather– with colder fingers tending to be smaller and hotter fingers often swelling a bit.
