Have you ever had someone judge you for your career choice when they hardly do anything work-wise?

One woman is upset with her boyfriend, who has been harshly judging her for leaving her government job to work at her mom’s cafe.

She’s 28 and raising a young son with her 35-year-old boyfriend, whom she’s been with for years.

A few years ago, she worked as a teacher but quit because she was underpaid and overworked. Then, she decided to start working a government job, which supported her family for a while and gave her a decent salary.

But then, last August, her dad suddenly passed away, and she needed to stop working for a while.

“I was very close to him, and this led to severe depression and me being forced to go onto sick pay from the government,” she explained.

“I was still making [around $2,100] as my sick pay.”

Throughout her career journey, her boyfriend has mocked her job titles. She has impressive degrees, including an undergraduate degree in psychology and a graduate degree in special needs education. Still, her boyfriend has referred to them as “pieces of paper” and boasts about how easily he could acquire them.

Because she took so long off from her government job, she and her bosses came to the agreement that she would need to find a new job but would still receive sick pay until she found one. Her mom owns a cafe and offered to let her work there five days a week with provided childcare.
