Back in December, 40-year-old Ana Maria Knezevic decided to leave her home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and travel to Spain to spend some time away.

While she is originally from Colombia, Ana is a naturalized American who, at the time, had been navigating a difficult divorce from her husband of 13 years, David Knezevic. So, she thought visiting Spain would help her get away and set out on a new adventure.

But, in February, Ana mysteriously vanished from her apartment complex, and her family and friends have been left reeling.

Upon arriving in Spain, she stayed in an apartment building located in the Salamanca district. Then, she was last seen by her neighbors at about 10:00 p.m. on February 2, 2024.

That evening, Ana reportedly spoke with a friend on the phone during an hour-long conversation and claimed she had planned to stay in because of the harsh weather outside.

Nonetheless, surveillance cameras inside her apartment building captured footage of a man wearing a motorcycle helmet spraypainting the lenses– ultimately disabling the security cameras. Then, the following day, two of Ana’s friends received bizarre text messages from her phone.

One of the messages was in English; meanwhile, one was in Spanish. But both claimed that Ana had met a new man and decided to run off with him for a couple of days.

“She wouldn’t do this… it is very unsafe and crazy behavior. She wouldn’t do that,” said Sanna Rameau, Ana’s friend who received the English text message.

“It just doesn’t make any sense.”
