While TikToker Silvia (@silviasaige2.0) was waiting in line at a Starbucks in Irvine, California, she bore witness to a rude customer with an extreme lack of social awareness. This customer’s name was Anne-Marie, and she was with two other ladies.

She was texting her kids and her husband while talking loudly on the phone. Silvia could hear every word of Anne-Marie’s conversation.

When one of the employees announced that they were ready to take the next person’s order, Anne-Marie did not budge or look up from her phone, even though she was next in line.

Silvia and the employee exchanged a confused look. Finally, Anne-Marie went up to the counter and ordered her drink while still texting and talking about her family.

She could not figure out what sandwich she wanted despite having had plenty of time to peruse the menu. After mulling it over, she decided on one.

But then, she wanted to buy something for the two ladies she was with.

So, she walked over to the display of cups and coffee grounds toward the back of the store to pick out some items while in the middle of ordering, halting service.

Silvia was annoyed that Anne-Marie was holding up the line because she had an appointment to get to on time. It just goes to show that some people think the world revolves around them.

Anne-Marie’s entitled and disruptive behavior is just one example of what it’s like to work in the customer service industry.

She definitely lacked social grace and etiquette. Etiquette is not about old-fashioned and outdated rules. It’s more about having good manners, which most parents teach their kids.

But somewhere along the way, perhaps those lessons can get lost because more adults than ever are making some serious etiquette mistakes.

According to other TikTok users, there are many people like Anne-Marie out there. They can be found in grocery stores, parks, movie theaters, hair salons, and more.

In order to practice proper social etiquette, be mindful of your actions and words, and show respect for other people’s time and personal space. By being aware of your surroundings and considerate of others, society could run a lot more smoothly.

If you’re not Anne-Marie… Maybe this isn’t for you. Or maybe it is… Social awareness is free folks, pick some up! #BeReady
