If your prom date got engaged, and their significant other reached out to you, demanding that you remove all your prom photos with them from social media, would you feel inclined to do their bidding? Or would you find their request insane?
This 35-year-old woman has been friends with 36-year-old Andy since they were 7 and 8. They’re from the same town, but Andy’s parents later moved away.
Every year for Christmas, school breaks, and during the summer, Andy and his family would come back, and she and Andy would hang out and play with the other kids in the neighborhood.
When she was 15, her family moved an hour away from Andy’s family. When she was a junior in high school, she found MySpace and made a profile.
Days later, she reconnected with some of her old friends, and Andy was one of them. She and Andy started hanging out and chatting more, but it wasn’t ever a romantic thing.
When it came time for her senior prom, all of their friends promised to go in one big group, but then they all went against that and got dates.
She and Andy were the last ones left, and they promised to go to prom together. But Andy’s sister, who graduated a year earlier and missed prom, said she wanted him to take her, and he agreed.
“I panicked; I didn’t want to miss my prom, but I also didn’t want to be the only one without a date. That same week, guess who went to visit me? Andy. It felt like it was a sign,” she explained.
“I didn’t ask right away; I waited until he was leaving, and as we were walking outside, I told him everything and asked if he would go with me.”

“I was a bit embarrassed (a girl asking the guy); he just kind of laughed and said yes, and to tell him the color of my dress so he could match his tux. Prom day came; he picked me up at home, then off we went. It was a lovely night; we danced, we ate, talked, laughed, and took a bunch of pictures.”
They had a blast, and after graduating, they drifted apart. They still talked a bit and went years without seeing one another, but when they did spend time together, it was like time hadn’t gone by.
When she got married, she invited Andy, but he unfortunately couldn’t attend. Over Thanksgiving, Andy got engaged, and she’s been hoping to be there.
However, something recently happened with Andy’s fiancée that has her doubting that she will be on the guest list. She does not know Andy’s bride-to-be, and she has never met this girl in person.
Several months before Andy proposed, this girl sent her a friend request on Facebook. She didn’t like her posts or anything, nor did she send her a message.
“But two days ago she messaged me, asking to please take down my prom pictures, to be fair, only the ones that Andy is in. The pictures are in no way distasteful or explicit or anything of the sort,” she said.
The photos she has with Andy include him in front of a fountain, sitting with her at a table, making silly poses with their other friends, and line dancing.
She questioned his fiancée about why she wanted them all removed, and she replied that they were disrespectful to her and to the relationship with Andy.
That really made her mad, and she responded to Andy’s fiancée that she and Andy have only ever been friends, so her argument didn’t make any sense.
She went on to detail how the photos were reminders of friendship and good times between her, Andy, and all of their buddies.
“She insisted, telling me that it was embarrassing to her that her fiancé was in another woman’s pictures posing like we were a couple. I told her I was sorry she was feeling like that, but I was not going to take the pictures down,” she continued.
“She sent me a few more messages that I have not opened, but from the notifications I can still read them lol. She’s basically repeating herself and asking for the pictures to be taken down.”
“I have no Idea why she is feeling the way she is, or what got into her to all of a sudden ask me that. Like I mentioned, Andy and I grew apart. Last time I saw him was over a year ago, and before that it had been like 3 years, maybe more. I don’t know if he knows about this, and I don’t want to ask. I feel a bit weird now, like I did something bad. Maybe I’m just being dramatic?”
She’s left wondering if she’s a jerk for refusing to take the photos down, and if she should change her mind.
Wow, I think she should take screenshots of what this girl said to her and send them to Andy. Poor dude deserves a warning about how crazy the girl he’s about to marry is.
This is absolutely not a reasonable thing to be asked, so no, she should not take the photos down, but she should block Andy’s fiancée so she can’t keep badgering her.
I guess Andy’s fiancée is just insanely jealous and insane.
