Her boyfriend had the chance to set the tone for how respect works in their household, and he blew it big time. When you live with someone and their kids, you don't simply share space; you share responsibility as well (that includes stepping in when things get ugly).
She didn't go looking for a fight with her boyfriend's kids, but when she saw something her partner should have handled better, she got involved.
She wasn't out of line in how she handled herself and the situation; she just exposed the fact that she's expected to play house, but she's not allowed to be heard when it matters to her.
For a little more than a year so far, this 30-year-old woman has been dating her 45-year-old boyfriend, but they have known one another for approximately three years.
They do live together at the moment with their kids from prior relationships, and even though they both had a conversation about how it was moving a bit quickly to be under one roof with a blended family, her lease was up, and they came to the conclusion that they wanted to take the next step.
Not that long ago, they brought their kids camping, and her boyfriend's kids (who are 12, 14, and 16) met some 18-year-old boys who were at a nearby campsite.
Her boyfriend's 12 and 14-year-old girls wanted to hang out with these boys one evening, but they had been drinking (which is legal where they live).
Her boyfriend told his daughters no, but they got snarky with him, so she got involved. She stated that it was not appropriate for young girls to hang out with drunk, grown men alone. She said she was happy to go to the campsite with the girls, but the girls declined.
"Normally, I wouldn’t put my 2 cents in, very much NACHO when it comes to each other’s kids, but they were giving their dad such a bad attitude and we were just trying to enjoy our bonfire," she explained.

"Well, the girls turned on me, full yelling, name-calling, [and] being totally disrespectful. My partner said nothing. I went to bed [angry]. I was only looking out for them/ having my man's back and didn’t deserve that."
In the days that followed, she and her boyfriend discussed how his kids had treated her. Her boyfriend felt that she should have ignored them and done the whole forgive and forget thing.
She pointed out to her boyfriend that his kids were insanely rude to her and that it was out of line for them to call her names. She then told her boyfriend that she no longer felt comfortable cleaning, cooking, or doing anything to provide for his kids after how cruel they were to her.
She made it crystal clear that she would no longer do a single thing for his kids until they apologized to her. Her boyfriend's kids have since been with their mom after returning home from the camping trip, and yesterday evening was the first time they came over.
Her boyfriend's son was celebrating his 16th birthday, so she cooked an incredible lamb roast, complete with a variety of different vegetables.
In the hours leading up to her boyfriend's kids coming over, she reiterated to her boyfriend that she would not cook or clean for his daughters. He remained silent.
"Well, dinner time comes, and we’re all in the kitchen, I told the girls, 'like you said on Saturday, ‘I’m not your mother, so it’s not my job to put food on the table for you. I don’t do favours for people who talk with such disrespect,' - all [heck] broke loose," she added.
"His daughters started screaming, cursing, and asking why I’m still here and that I should leave. My partner said that I’ve now upset his kids and picked a fight at dinner, ruining it for everyone."
"He didn’t have my back at all. I ended up walking away, he ended up going to the opposite side of the house with his kids, and I went to the other end with mine."
When they got up this morning, her boyfriend didn't say anything to her. Obviously, it's awkward at home, and she's not convinced she was a jerk to stand up for herself.
I don't really see how she can win here after her boyfriend basically sided with his disrespectful kids over her. Perhaps they did move in too quickly, but I think it's time for her to move out. I wouldn't want to live in a house with kids that are allowed to walk all over me while my partner stands by and lets it happen.
Her boyfriend needs to step up as a parent and a partner (which I doubt will happen), or she needs to take a step back from it all.
Do you think she was wrong to refuse to care for her boyfriend's kids after how nasty they were to her?
