During her last year of college, TikToker Serena Godwin (@serenacggodwin) got sued at her sorority formal when she was on stage getting an award as the president of her sorority. She has been out of college for two years now, and she's finally ready to spill the details on what happened.

So, there was this one girl in her sorority who never showed up to events. In sororities, you receive a fine every time you do not attend an event.

The girl wasn't really friends with anyone in the sorority except for one or two people. Her dad also owned the biggest law firm in the area.

One day, Serena received an email from this girl, saying that she wasn't able to go to events because she had been working a lot, so she needed all these fines to be dropped. However, people allegedly saw her out and about all the time, so Serena didn't really believe her.

Serena told her that in order to get the fines dropped, she would have to send in an excuse prior to each event. That was the extent of their conversation. Serena had never interacted with this girl or spoken to her in person.

The sorority formal was a week later, and everyone dressed up to go. The girl never came to the formal, which was okay because attendance was optional.

At one point, Serena stepped up onstage to receive her award. When she got off the stage, she saw a lady at the end of the steps, holding a yellow packet.

The lady asked if she was Serena. Serena thought they just needed to pay for the venue, but this lady handed her some papers and walked away without another word. She went to the bathroom with her best friend to open the packet, and it contained a lawsuit.

She sobbed in the bathroom as her sorority sisters tried to comfort her. She immediately called the girl's advisor, who then called headquarters.

It turned out that the girl had sued her for fraud and defamation. There was also an order that prevented Serena from speaking about the lawsuit to other people.

The next day, the sorority brought in their lawyer to help Serena. A week or two passed with no news from the lawyer, so she was frantically calling and emailing the lawyer every day.

She had to get her parents involved because they were giving very little information as to how they were handling the situation.

This went on for three months during the summer. Serena sobbed in her apartment every day. She was so depressed and nervous and felt like her entire life was ruined just for being president of her sorority.

She knew that the girl was slandering her and the sorority. Her lawyer even flew to a different state to meet up with the girl, but never communicated with Serena.

Finally, at the end of the summer, her lawyer called her and told her that the lawsuit was being dropped. Aside from that, no one explained anything else to her.

The sorority headquarters also decided to remove her as president of the sorority. Serena was confused because she dedicated every single day of her life to the role, and she was best friends with everyone in the sorority.

All the girls were upset about her removal as president. Even Serena's advisor was shocked and tried to back her up. They petitioned to keep Serena as president, but she was ultimately dropped because it was the headquarters' decision.

She managed to finish her senior year, graduate, and get through that dark time. At the end of the day, she came out stronger and better than ever before.
