Infidelity doesn’t always blossom out of passion for a person you’re not married to, as it can also stem from boredom, loneliness, or emotional drift in your own marriage.

She and her husband haven’t been close for years, and after he ended up smooching a female coworker, she’s beginning to doubt that they should remain married.

Six years ago, this 34-year-old woman and her 32-year-old husband tied the knot, and they have a son together. She says that, mainly, their marriage is completely normal.

They have great days, and along with that, good moments that are harder to find on some occasions. But everything can’t always be perfect, right?

Throughout the last four years, they’ve been pulled in different directions with how busy life has gotten. Their jobs are demanding, they’ve been doing renovations on their home, and the majority of their time not spent on all of that is devoted to being parents to their child.

“It’s neither of our faults exactly, but we just never have time for each other. We haven’t gone on a real date in years, and I can’t remember the last time we [slept together],” she explained.

“I think that’s part of why I was so heartbroken when my husband came home from work late one day recently and told me that he had kissed a woman he works with.”

“He told me that they had both had a momentary lapse in judgment and that he was really sorry. He told me it was with this girl that I’ve met several times, and I always called his work wife because they talk to each other so often.”

She is so upset that her husband kissed his work wife, and after he confessed, she screamed at him. Her husband did promise to spend less time with this woman, and he said he would no longer speak to her.

She was so hurt that she snapped that she no longer wanted to be married to her husband now that he’s a cheater, but since the heat of the moment has passed, she’s not convinced she wants a divorce.

She hates her husband for what he did, but she cannot picture her life without him by her side. She knows in time, she will organize her thoughts, but in the meantime, she’s seeking outside advice.

Whether she stays or goes will depend on whether her husband is willing to rebuild her trust, and if she still believes the marriage is worth saving (and that could take some time to sort through).

I don’t think she has to rush to make a decision; it’s fine for her to sit and consider her options. I think going to counseling with her husband could be a great next step, along with trying to go on dates while reviving their romance. If that doesn’t work and she wants to leave him, at least she will know they made a genuine effort to fix their relationship.

Do you think she should remain in her marriage or leave her husband?
