While TikToker Mali (@nursemali11) was at work doing some documentation paperwork at the nursing station, his coworker came out of her new patient’s room in the ER looking like she had seen a ghost.

When Mali asked what was wrong, she explained that she needed to start a Foley on the patient, but he was making her feel uncomfortable about doing it.

The patient made a comment about how she needed to smile because it was a privilege to do a Foley on him. And if you need a quick rundown on what a Foley catheter is, it’s used to drain urine out of a patient who is unable to go to the bathroom.

So, Mali went over to the supply closet, grabbed a new Foley tray, and walked into the patient’s room with a big smile on his face. He introduced himself and said he would be starting on the Foley.

The patient asked what happened to the other nurse. Mali told him that he was happy to help his coworker out with this task.

Foleys were his favorite task, and he always had a blast doing them. The patient looked uncomfortable as Mali described the procedure in detail as he was performing it.

The patient asked him to hurry it up a little bit because he was getting weirded out. Mali wrapped up the Foley, threw everything away, and told the patient it was an honor and a privilege to help him out.

A few minutes later, Mali’s coworker went to check on the patient. Apparently, he didn’t want Mali to come back into his room ever again because he was so weird about the Foley. But Mali said that all he did was have a big smile on his face the whole time.

Hopefully, the patient learned a lesson that day about coming to the ER and being a creep. If there’s one thing Mali will always do, it’s stand up for his female coworkers.

In the comments section, several TikTok users shared their own experiences with creepy patients and how they dealt with them.

“I love this! The ER I used to work in was near a prison, and the prisoners always wanted the women to put in their foleys, and they all knew they could come get me any time to fix that situation. I always give them a wink on the way out,” commented one user.

“In the late ’90s, I worked at a long-term care facility. We had a male resident who knew how to use a plastic urinal but would push his call light and yell NURSE repeatedly until we finally gave in and were greeted with, “Put it in the cup.” If we didn’t, he would soil the bed,” wrote another.

“From a former urology nurse, thank you! The stories of inappropriate comments and body movements I could tell…Luckily, I worked with a great doctor who always had our backs,” stated a third.
