Recently, TikToker Arielle Murphy (@ariellemurphy_) got into a fight with a woman at Target over a sheep sweater. While she was at the store, Arielle happened to see a mannequin with a sheep sweater on it.

She thought it was super cute, so she looked around for the sweater but couldn’t find it.

So, she asked an employee for help. The employee told her that the sheep sweater on the mannequin was the only one in the store. It was also sold out online.

Arielle said she was more than willing to buy the last remaining sweater, so the employee went to find her manager to make the purchase happen. It all seemed easy enough…or so she thought.

As she was waiting, a woman walked over to her and stopped in front of the mannequin to admire the sheep sweater. She declared that she wanted it, and Arielle said she did, too.

The woman left and returned with an employee, clearly on a mission to get that sweater for herself. She asked the employee to take the sweater off the mannequin.

Arielle stepped in, saying that she had already asked someone to get the sweater for her. The woman was not happy about that.

“She goes into this whole story about how her husband loves sheep, and he wasn’t feeling well for months, and all he wanted was this sweater, and it’s sold out online and all this stuff,” Arielle recalled.

Finally, the manager approached them and said that there was only one sweater, so they would have to decide who would get it. In the end, Arielle walked away victorious and bought the sweater.

It was rightfully hers because she had gotten there first.

In the comments section, many TikTok users backed her up, declaring that she had earned that sheep sweater fair and square.

“According to the rule of calling dibs, you won. The sweater is morally, ethically, spiritually, physically, positively, absolutely, undeniably, and reliably yours!” exclaimed one user.

“People always give a sob story when they want to get the last of something. I’m glad you took the sweater,” pointed out another.

“As a retail manager, it pains me they only had one and put it on the mannequin. Number one rule of displays is to showcase something you can sell, not something you are sold out of,” commented a third.

In the end, the sheep sweater became more than just clothing. It represented first dibs, retail chaos, and the unspoken rules of shopping.

What would you do if you were in Arielle’s shoes? Would you concede and let the other person take the win? Or would you abide by the rule of first-come, first-served?
