Anyone who works in healthcare will tell you the same thing: after a while, very little surprises you. But every so often, a case comes along that shocks an entire unit.

TikToker Cristaldy (@itscristaldyj) is a travel nurse, and she’s talking about the worst case of betrayal she has ever seen in her career.

She doesn’t just see injuries and diagnoses; she sees what happens when secrets are uncovered.

A couple who had been married for 20 years came to the hospital because the wife had noticed that something seemed off with her husband.

He was more forgetful, and he had started losing weight. Concerned that something was wrong, she decided to take him to the hospital.

The scans showed that he had lesions in his brain, which may or may not be cancer. The wife was distraught and wished she had brought him in sooner.

“Now, she’s planning her whole life around the fact that her husband has cancer,” said Cristaldy. “She’s looking at treatment; she’s doing the absolute most.”

After running some more tests and doing bloodwork, they discovered that this man did not have cancer. He actually had HIV that progressed to AIDS to the point that he developed lesions in the brain.

They reported the case to the Department of Health because it was a matter of public safety. The Department of Health would then contact him and ask who he had been sleeping with.

This man had the option to call his wife and tell her, or break the news to her in person. He decided not to tell her because his wife did not know that he had cheated on her and contracted AIDS.

Instead, he let the Department of Health contact her.

The next day, the wife came to the hospital. She was enraged and wouldn’t stop yelling at him. The woman he had been cheating on his wife with showed up because she had gotten a call, too. In the end, security had to get involved.

Many TikTok users shared similar stories in the comments section, and they are urging all women to take care of their health and get tested, no matter how much they trust their partners.

“My good friend caught chlamydia and found out two weeks after they got married. She annulled that marriage so fast,” stated one user.

“Similar experience. This lady was going in for a same day surgery and was there with her husband. Nurse asked her if she was still taking meds for HIV. Husband didn’t know she had HIV,” commented another.

“My mom had a friend who passed from AIDS. Her husband cheated, got HIV (was getting treatment), but never told her. By the time she found out, she passed away. After I heard that story, even in a relationship, I get tested every three months, and I always tell women in relationships (marriage or not) to get tested regardless of how much you trust him,” wrote a third.

20 years and this is how she found out! I don’t condone it, but if you’re going to …at least protect yourself and your loved ones!!! #nurse #storytelling #hospital #drama #fyp
