Spooky season isn’t just for October! Every night can be filled with a little fear through spooky stories. TikToker Savana (@itssavanadarling) is sharing a chilling tale involving a ghostly encounter in the Appalachian Mountains.
A couple of years ago, Meghan and her three best friends, Lily, Danielle, and Jess, rented a cabin in the Appalachian Mountains for Valentine’s Day.
They were all single at the time and were very excited to celebrate. They lived in the city and rarely ever had the chance to get up to the mountains.
The night before they left for the cabin, the girls all gathered at Meghan’s house to make the trip easier. In the morning, they woke up early, packed up the car, and drove for several hours. As they got closer to the cabin, Meghan started to feel nervous.
It was a little farther into the woods than she would’ve liked. But once she saw the cabin, she felt more at ease. It was newly renovated and tucked away in a spot with a beautiful view.
The other girls were overjoyed. They grabbed their bags, headed into the cabin, and got settled in. Then, they cooked dinner and enjoyed the night.
Everything was going fine until the middle of the night. The girls had gone to bed, except Danielle and Meghan, who were still up, watching a movie.
Out of nowhere, they heard scratching outside. They assumed it was just some kind of animal, and eventually, the sound stopped, so they continued watching the movie.
About 30 minutes later, Danielle went to bed. Meghan stayed up and heard the scratching again. She peeked out the window but couldn’t see anything. Finally, she went to bed and slept through the night without incident. She was the last to wake up in the morning.

When she walked over to make a cup of coffee, she happened to glance out the window and saw a tree in the backyard with wood chips around the base. She thought it was odd but shrugged it off.
The girls got ready for the day and went to a nearby town to explore. When they returned home and settled in for the night, they all heard the scratching noise again.
Meghan got up to look out the window, but as soon as she reached it, the scratching stopped. The porch light was on, so she could see that there was nothing near the tree.
After a while, everyone got tired and went to bed. In the middle of the night, Meghan woke to the sound of footsteps in the hallway. She figured it was one of her friends, so she rolled over and went back to sleep.
But then, she heard more footsteps and could see a shadow moving back and forth through the crack in the door. That went on for about five minutes.
Her gut told her not to check, so she stayed in bed until she fell asleep again. The next morning, she met her friends in the living room.
They decided to stay in for Valentine’s Day and do makeovers. At nightfall, everyone headed to their rooms to get ready for bed.
A few hours later, Meghan heard the footsteps in the hallway again. This time, they sounded heavier and more frantic. Right as she stood up, the front door of the cabin slammed shut. She grabbed her phone and texted the other girls, but no one responded.
She finally peered out the door and didn’t see anything. The other girls were asleep. Then, she heard what sounded like someone running around the outside of the cabin and banging against the siding. The loud, heavy footsteps were also running in the hallway again.
Meghan started to cry and yelled out for it to stop. Immediately, everything stopped. The girls started texting in the group chat. Everyone else had heard the commotion, too.
They agreed to meet in Lily’s room so they could all be together. They sprinted to Lily’s room and sat huddled in the middle of her bed for the rest of the night.
In the morning, they slowly made their way to the living room. There was mud and wood chips scattered on the floor, and the front door was slightly ajar.
“We still had one more night we were supposed to stay, but we didn’t care,” said Meghan.
“We were leaving. Right then and there, we packed all of our things, threw them in the car, and got out of there so fast. We made it back to the main road. All of us had tears in our eyes. This was something none of us had ever experienced in our entire lives.”
The next day, she called the host of the rental cabin and explained the situation. She was told that the last group that stayed there a few weeks ago also ended up leaving early because they kept hearing someone running around.
The host refunded all the money for the entire weekend because they felt bad.
