The other night, TikToker Sofia Kochanova (@s.gorshok) went on a date with a guy she met at one of her work events. They went to a nice place, where he ordered a bunch of food and drinks.
The date was going well, and they were forming a close bond, that is, until the server brought the check over to their table. Sofia’s date took a look at the check and asked if they were going to his place or hers.
Sofia was a little thrown off by how direct the question was. She told him that she didn’t feel comfortable going home with a guy on a first date. She was still getting to know him.
However, he flat-out told her that he would not be covering the check unless they went home together, making it painfully clear that he viewed dinner dates as a transaction for hooking up.
Sofia grabbed the check out of his hands to see it for herself. The entire meal had cost a little over $100. She offered to pay the bill, and he agreed without hesitation.
As she was placing her card on the table, their server suddenly came up to deliver some unexpected news.
Apparently, the man at the next table had already covered the entire check for them. Confused, Sofia looked back and forth at the server, her date, and the other guy who had paid, trying to process what had just happened.
In one smooth, heroic move, the mystery diner stepped in at the perfect time, like a knight in shining armor. He must have overheard their little tiff about the bill and had been watching everything unfold.
He handled it in the best way possible. Instead of interrupting their dinner or escalating the situation, he opted for a quiet act of generosity.

Her date got up and left because, according to him, they weren’t compatible, and she was “weird” and “not even that hot.” Sometimes, the trash really does take itself out.
After he stormed off (with zero dignity and no chance of a second date), Sofia did what any polite person would do. She got up and thanked the other man for paying for her meal.
Right as she turned away to leave, he stopped her and asked for her phone number. Of course, she said yes, and they set up a date soon after. Maybe that’ll catch on as a new way to meet people: waiting nearby to save pretty girls from horrible dates.
In the end, Sofia walked away with a great rom-com story and pride in herself for standing her ground against a guy who wouldn’t even treat her with basic respect. Hopefully, this date goes much more smoothly!
