One year ago, TikToker Sarah Gardner (@sarahsgardner) had her entire life flipped upside down by her now ex-husband. Looking back, she realizes that it was the best thing that could have happened to her.
Now, she is sharing her story online in an effort to earn some money to pay off the massive debt he left her with. Aside from that, she has moved on and is doing well.
A year ago, Sarah was boarding a plane to Nashville for a trip she had booked to celebrate her husband’s 50th birthday. The week before the trip, he was acting differently, but she couldn’t figure out why. She kept asking him what was wrong, but he kept telling her it was nothing.
The day before the trip, he was acting like he didn’t want to go anymore, and Sarah was so confused over it. She upgraded them to seats at the front of the plane to start their trip off right.
The plane ride was fine, but as soon as they landed and she turned off airplane mode on her phone, she received a barrage of messages from a woman.
“The woman decided to tell me everything,” said Sarah. “That my husband had been cheating on me for over three years. He sat there and denied and denied and denied.”
“And then, she called me while I was still on the plane, so I answered. He’s in the background saying, she’s lying, she’s making it up, she’s crazy. I knew the truth at that point.”
Sarah kept her cool and waited until they got off the plane before asking to see her husband’s phone. On his phone, there were pictures of her house and car that the other woman had sent to him. She was at the house while she was calling Sarah.
Sarah had all the proof she needed to leave him that day. She walked away from him at the airport. Luckily, her friend in Nashville was picking them up to take them to a hotel, so she texted her about what had happened.
Her friend brought Sarah back to her house, where a few other friends joined them to help her get through the weekend.
“He was texting me the entire time, telling me he couldn’t believe I left him at the airport and how wrong I was and how I never believe him, and she was lying,” said Sarah.
He went home to do some damage control, and by the next day, his affair partner was also messaging her, telling her that she hadn’t meant it, and she never slept with her husband. Her husband and his affair partner both kept stating that it was never physical.
But to Sarah, an emotional affair was just as bad. She called a lawyer and filed for divorce. Later, she found out that her ex-husband and his affair partner were indeed sleeping together.
They recorded themselves and sent the video to the other woman’s husband to enjoy. So, the three of them were all in on it together.
Apparently, they also met at a club, which was where Sarah’s ex-husband was spending all his time on the days she was working late. For Sarah, finding out the truth was heartbreaking, but in the end, she is glad that she got away from a crazy, toxic situation.
