In July or August of 2023, a new neighbor moved in next to TikToker Joanna (@joanna__lynn) and her family. The word on the street was that the new neighbor had a three-year-old daughter.
At the time, Joanna’s son was three, so she thought it was the perfect opportunity for her son to make a new friend. She went over to introduce herself and welcomed the woman to the neighborhood with a tray of baked goods. They ended up chatting for three hours, and their kids played together.
Joanna’s ex-husband, Shane, had come over to make introductions as well, but he had to go to work, so he couldn’t stay long. Joanna and the neighbor, Brynn, became good friends.
They constantly hung out and had playdates with their kids. She was also an accountant, just like Joanna.
In December 2023, Joanna left her husband. Behind the scenes, their relationship had been rocky for quite some time. Shane was extremely manipulative, as well as emotionally and mentally abusive.
She made a fresh start and moved to a new apartment. Brynn was helping her through the process because they were friends, and their children were friends. She even gave Joanna her old desk because it matched the color scheme of her apartment.
One day, Brynn texted her and invited her out for brunch once she was all settled in. Joanna saw a nice brunch spot near her apartment and texted Brynn back. She received no response from her. Joanna tried texting her again the following week, but was still met with silence.
When Joanna was dropping off her son at Shane’s house, she asked him if there was anything going on between him and Brynn. He denied it, but her suspicions were raised.
Less than a month later, at the end of March 2024, he admitted that he and Brynn had feelings for each other and were going to start dating.

By then, it was clear that Brynn had ghosted her. Then, in January or February of 2025, Shane told her that he and their son would be moving into Brynn’s house next door.
“They haven’t even been dating a year yet,” Joanna said. “Shane likes to move fast. Even less than a month after that, I see on social media that they are engaged.”
They bought a house together, moved into the house in August 2025, and got married in September 2025. He also turned Brynn and his whole family against Joanna, which she realized when her ex-father-in-law wouldn’t say one word to her at her son’s kindergarten musical.
So, that’s how her ex-husband went from living next to their neighbor to marrying her. A warm welcome for a new neighbor had turned into a messy and deeply personal betrayal that she never saw coming.
