One time, TikToker @kins11_ found out she was accidentally dating her 77-year-old neighbor, who lived in her apartment complex.
He moved in about eight or nine months ago, and at the time, he was struggling on the steps. So, she helped him carry up his boxes and even went to a storage unit with him a month later to help him load some stuff into his car.
In the summer, he would leave cherries and a note at her door about every two weeks. When Thanksgiving rolled around, her mom asked if he had a place to go for the holiday and invited him over. He was super grateful to be included.
“Fast forward after Thanksgiving that night, I hug him…I’m feeling like grandpa-granddaughter vibes, and he’s like, I need to give you a kiss on the cheek,” said @kins11_.
“So, he comes over, and he kisses me on the cheek three times.”
He proceeded to call her multiple times a day, sometimes back-to-back. She tried to establish some more boundaries and was distant for a week and a half.
When she saw him in the hallway, they exchanged holiday cards. During the exchange, he told her that he was a little confused about where they stood lately.
He mentioned that he knew she had been with a woman before and didn’t know if she “swung both ways.” She felt her soul leave her body at that point.
She told him that she viewed him as a friend, just like their other neighbors. He smiled and said he still wanted to take her out to dinner at a nice restaurant.

She replied that she would get back to him about that. For two weeks, she put off talking to him. Finally, she gave him a phone call to clear things up, which made him upset.
She pointed out that he was 77 years old, and she was only 29. His daughter was 10 years older than her, and her parents were 10 years younger than him. He thought that she was sending him mixed signals, especially after she invited him to Thanksgiving.
“So, basically, I had a breakup with my 77-year-old neighbor without even knowing we were dating to begin with,” said @kins11_.
“He really thought we were an item, and he was confused.”
For Valentine’s Day, he gave her a gift. It was a snow brush for her car. In the comments section, several TikTok users shared about the times they were nice to men, only to have their good deeds backfire.
“I once had a man at work call me out to the hallway (from the break room) and break up with me, and I didn’t even know we were dating,” commented one user.
“I helped an old man push his out-of-gas truck out of the road, go get gas, and take it back. He then said he was available and wanted to take me to dinner. His kids are older than me, and he’s older than my dad. I told him no, thank you, and I have a partner, but he said no one had to know, and age is just a number. He’s 81,” wrote another.
“Men are so weird for this! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve thought I was friends with a man in the most innocent way, and he thought it was more. It never ends,” added a third.
