In her early twenties, TikToker Amanda’s (@the_banshees_bookshelf) parents got divorced. When her dad started getting serious with the woman who became her stepmother, she moved in with Amanda and her father.
At the time, Amanda was 21 or 22. She had been living in the house since she was around five years old. Her stepmother told her that she was sensitive to spirits, and as someone who had always been interested in the paranormal and the supernatural, Amanda was immediately intrigued.
Her stepmother sensed three people, two women and a man, chatting in her parents’ old bedroom. A couple of weeks later, Amanda was having lunch with her mom and told her about how her stepmother was sensitive to spirits.
Her mom asked if she had heard the people in the bedroom yet.
Amanda was shocked because her mom had never mentioned any ghostly activity in the 15 years they had lived in the house. Her mom said that she hadn’t wanted to scare her because she was just a kid.
Her mom regularly heard the unexplained voices for years, in the dead of winter when there was three feet of snow on the ground, during rainstorms, and at any time of day or night.
Amanda never found out who the three people were, but her dad and stepmom still hear the voices to this day. In the comments section, many people shared eerily similar experiences.
“When we moved into my grandparents’ old colonial-style home built in the 1920s, I started hearing voices of people talking and having conversations. I thought I was losing my mind until my dad told me he was hearing it too,” commented one user.
“In my first house that I lived at as a married woman, I heard disembodied voices here and there. Sometimes, it sounded like a conversation, but very low, and the words were not clearly understandable,” shared another.

“I started having paranormal things happen from age eight. The first being my grandpa passed away at about eight, and about six to eight months later, I’m getting a drink in the middle of the night, standing with the fridge door open, I hear him say my name. I kind of glance around and then go back to drinking. Then, he said it again. I put the top back on the water and ran to my room under the covers,” added a third.
“I remember I was in the hallway of my house at 11 p.m., chilling on a small couch, and in front of me was a room where two of my cousins were sleeping that night. A few minutes in, I started hearing this faint phantom music playing, no vocals. I checked the rooms, and they were dead asleep. I checked outside, and it was dead silence. Then, I go back in the hallway, and you can hear the strange music playing,” wrote someone else.
