Do you think that being related to someone is enough of a reason to allow them to have something of value that you own for free?
This 28-year-old guy bought himself a new car after spending a long time saving up his money for it. There was nothing wrong with his old car; it just wasn’t flashy.
He was going to sell his old car because it’s worth a fair amount of money, and he could add that cash to his savings account. But his mom had other plans for his set of wheels.
“In light of the new car, my mother said, in no uncertain terms, that I could give my old one to my stepbrother since it would serve him well. She made this statement without any sort of negotiation whatsoever; it just sounded like something she expected,” he explained.
Now, he is not close to his stepbrother, and he frankly never has been. This is not a person he considers to be a sibling to him.
His mom has always acted like his stepbrother requires more help and support, so that’s why she thinks he should give his old car to his stepbrother.
He told his mom that he’s selling his car instead of allowing his stepbrother to have it for free, which completely shocked her. His mom insisted he should not do that, since it would be meaningful to his stepbrother to have the car as a gift, and apparently, he’s broke, so it’s not like he can go get his own car.
“After I told him that he can have my car, but in exchange for less money than what it’s worth, my mother started saying that I am being selfish and that ‘I’ve always had it easy,’ whereas my stepbrother now seems to be irritated by me,” he continued.
He’s left wondering if he’s being the irrational one here.

I’m sorry, if his stepbrother needs a car and financial assistance that badly, why can’t his mother or his stepbrother’s father help him out? Why should he be the one to make a sacrifice for someone he doesn’t even have a relationship with?
His mom is ridiculously entitled, and it’s so not cool for her to treat him like he’s somehow living a charmed life because he saved up his money to buy something he wanted. Boo hoo, his stepbrother is a capable adult who can learn to get out of his own way.
Or, maybe not, considering his mom is babying him and acting like he should be given expensive things for free simply for existing.
What do you think?
