Friendship breakups are always rough, but TikToker Salma (@salmayourlawyerbigsis) really was just looking out for her friend when she encouraged her to get a prenup before her marriage. She never expected she’d get uninvited to the wedding and shut out of her life.
When Salma, an attorney with practice in divorce law, was in her 20s, she had a close friend with whom she’d regularly go on long walks, and the two would talk about various topics on their minds. At the time, she’d begun dating a self-employed health care consultant, and she was a nurse.
However, the guy was pretty traditional and made it clear he wanted a wife who would stay home with their children. The friend was okay with this idea, and as Salma revealed, “would always joke that he was her retirement plan.”
When the friend got engaged, Salma recommended she get a prenup. “I was talking about basic things like him continuing to put money in her retirement fund so it grows at the same rate as his, [and] her getting some money and mutual funds while she’s a stay-at-home mom.”
Salma believed these things would protect her friend and were not just an attempt to steal her husband’s money if their marriage didn’t work out. Despite what happened, her friend was initially on board with this idea.
But her partner did not react well to Salma’s suggestion. “Traditional families don’t do prenups,” he said. Unfortunately, he didn’t leave it at his initial reaction.
“For some reason, this really triggered him,” Salma revealed. This led him to feed his soon-to-be wife bad ideas about Salma.
He claimed Salma was jealous of their relationship and wanted to break them up. Sadly, it started to affect Salma’s friend, and she began pushing Salma out of her life.
Salma even says she didn’t even push the prenup that much and backed off when her friend said she didn’t want one. Once her friend began ghosting her, she also got uninvited to her wedding. Salma explains that the wedding took place, but she never received an invitation.

To avoid further issues, Salma let the situation go and moved on. In 2025, Salma heard from her former friend for the first time in years. Her friend acknowledged it had been a while but asked if Salma could call her.
“Something serious had to be happening,” Salma thought, “If I haven’t heard from this girl in like six, seven years now and suddenly she is texting me.”
Salma decided to call her former friend after work and learned that she was, unsurprisingly, getting a divorce.
Salma’s friend asked for advice on how to protect herself, since she had gotten pregnant about 4 months after getting married and had been out of the workforce since.
“He obviously made it a point not to include her in financials,” Salma confessed. Despite what had happened in the past, Salma ended up helping her friend. Unfortunately, Salma’s friend did not come out of the situation as strong as she would have had she gotten the prenup.
The good news is that Salma and her friend are not enemies, as she revealed they are cordial these days. She also encouraged her friend to make a TikTok video about her story to help others in her situation, but her friend turned down the suggestion.
Salma also confirmed she had permission to make the video telling the story. She was inspired to make it to let her female followers know they need to get in control of their finances instead of leaving it all to their husbands.
