It’s always so sad to me when parents play favorites and can’t treat their kids equally or fairly. How would you feel if your parents evicted you so your sibling could move in, then got mad at you for taking all of your belongings with you on your way out?

This 20-year-old man has spent the last year and a half living in a house on his mom and dad’s property. The house has one bathroom and one bedroom, and the rent is super cheap, thanks to his parents.

The arrangement he had with his parents was that he could live in the house until he got married to his girlfriend or felt ready to relocate.

But six months ago, his mom and dad switched things up and said he had to move out at the end of the summer and find another place to rent, as they wanted his 17-year-old sister to move into his house.

“This was not the original plan, so I had basically renovated the entire house to make it as comfortable as possible for me. Everything except for the oven, dryer, and washing machine was either bought by me or someone gifted it to me,” he explained.

“Because all of this stuff is mine, I recently began to start moving things out gradually. Bookshelf, bed, one of the AC units, my trophy stands, etc. All I have left in this house is my TV, work desk (which will be moved next week), my couch, fridge, and microwave.”

While he was at work yesterday, his mom and dad came into his house without asking him or giving him a heads up. They then waited around until he came back to yell at him for removing his things from the house.

His parents said he wasn’t allowed to take his own belongings, as it meant his sister would have nothing when she moved in. He reminded his parents that his furniture and belongings were either things he bought or were gifted, so he could do what he wanted with his own property.

“They called me [a jerk] because now my sister has nothing for the house and will have to buy everything while she makes barely any money,” he continued.

“I told them that that was not my problem but was theirs since they decided to change everything up at [the] last second, [pulling the rug out from under me], especially while I also struggled with money because I had truck payments and bills.”

His parents called him names and said he was acting petty. They then stormed out and left him alone, and he’s not convinced he’s in the wrong for removing his things from the house.

What’s extra shocking to him about this incident is that his parents are wonderful, so he can’t understand why they’re acting so rude.

He’s left wondering if his parents are right and he is being petty.

His parents evicted him, so they don’t get to be upset with him for taking his belongings with him to his new place. That’s truly crazy to me.

It’s bad enough that his parents broke their promise and then tried to paint him as the villain for doing what any normal person would do.

If his parents are so angry, guess what, they’re welcome to pay to furnish the house for his sister, because that should not be his responsibility.

Do you think he’s wrong?
