In 2023, after dating her boyfriend for a month, TikToker Ava (@ava.is.a.mess18) moved in with him at the age of 19. She was head over heels in love with him and thought they would spend the rest of their lives together.
But when she left for two weeks to go on a trip with her family during Christmas and New Year’s, he stopped talking to her. He would send two or three texts a day, and that was it. He would not call her at all. She had terrible anxiety attacks every night due to him ignoring her.
“I literally had this gut feeling that he was cheating on me, and I was fully trying to convince myself that he was not doing that,” said Ava. “I literally made a journal that was five pages long, and all it says in all-caps is: HE IS NOT CHEATING ON YOU.”
On New Year’s Eve, he told her that he was going to a friend’s house to play video games, and they would ring in the new year that way.
But when she checked his location, she saw that he was headed to the bar. It was especially shocking because he never let her go to the bar.
She started blowing up his phone and called him about 50 times. He did not answer a single one of her calls. In fact, he began declining them.
That night, she saw that a girl he was being weird about before was at the same bar. At the end of the night, Ava saw him drive home and stay at their place.
The next morning, she received a text from him, saying that he fell asleep on his friend’s couch, even though she had a screenshot of his location, showing that he slept at their apartment.
Then, he called her later to say that he was unhappy and that they shouldn’t be together. She begged him to stay, and he took her back. However, she knew that something must have happened while she was on the trip.
“So, I come back home about a week later, and I go through his phone, and I literally see that he added a bunch of random women on his Snapchat list,” said Ava.
“Prior to this, he literally was talking to zero women. That man’s phone was so dry, and his best friends list was now filled with women. I took a picture of every single one of those girls’ Snapchats.”
She checked his Instagram and found out that he had tried to take a girl out on a date. This girl had a boyfriend, so she rejected him. He also tried to hang out with another girl he was previously involved with, but she never responded to his messages.
Later that night, he received a FaceTime call from the girl who was at the bar the same night as him. Ava picked up the phone, but he ripped it out of her hands. She demanded to see his phone. He deleted all his messages before handing it over to her.
Ava went to the bathroom to take a shower. While she was in the shower, he revealed that he had cheated on her during her trip. She started sobbing.
After her shower, they hooked up. About a month later, she finally broke up with him and moved back to her parents’ house.
