Many years ago, TikToker Ali (@nateandali) went on a coffee date with a guy. They hung out for a few hours and then went their separate ways.
About 15 minutes later, while she was on the bus, she received an unexpected text message from him that was surprisingly intense.
"It was something along the lines of: I have such strong feelings for you. I love you. I'm going on dates with these beautiful, ambitious women. I still continue to think about you," recalled Ali.
Naturally, Ali was confused. She didn't immediately realize that the text was meant for someone else. She spent 30 seconds trying to make sense of the message and wondered whether she had somehow misunderstood their entire date. Then, he called her.
That's when the embarrassing truth came out. He had accidentally sent Ali a text that was meant for his ex-girlfriend. They had only broken up recently, and he had started going on dates with other girls in an attempt to move on, but he was still clearly in love with her.
Rather than gaslighting Ali or pretending the message hadn't happened, he admitted what he had done and told Ali that he understood if she no longer wanted to see him. After that, they never saw each other again.
"I let myself sleep on it," said Ali. "I was so back and forth on whether or not this was a big deal. But in the end, it didn't work out anyway. But yeah, that happened once, and sometimes I think about it, and I think it's hilarious."
Some TikTok users praised the guy for taking accountability and shared their own stories about guys who failed to own up to their accidental texts.
"That's pretty emotionally intelligent to man up and admit what he did and his feelings," stated one user.

"Owning it is literally so kind. This week, my boyfriend sent me a text clearly meant for his ex. He's been claiming for more than a year that there's absolutely no contact," commented another.
"One time, years ago, I went on a first date that ended in a group meetup at a club. Long story short, there was a medical emergency, and we didn't get home until nearly 3 a.m. I didn't invite him in because I just wasn't into him. Not even five minutes later, after he left, I get an accidental text that was intended for another woman: 'Hey, you up; can I come over? Let me hit that," wrote a third.
"I had a guy send me a text that was meant for his group chat about how nice my rack looked on our date. He sent me a text right after, letting me know I should be flattered since it was about me," added someone else.
