A TikTok user who goes by the handle @thenickletree is telling a story about a haunted hotel. The Dauphine Orleans Hotel has a long history. It has changed a lot throughout the years, but the ghosts that occupy the place have remained the same.
In the 1800s, May Bailey and her family moved from Ireland to New Orleans. The family was pretty poor, but the parents worked hard to climb the social ladder.
Unfortunately, they passed away from yellow fever, leaving May Bailey and her little sister, Millie, alone. May had to find a way for them to survive.
She decided to open up a bordello and asked one of her father’s friends to finance her business. She set up her bordello in a cottage next to the Dauphine Orleans Hotel.
It was very extravagant and was frequented by high-end men all over New Orleans. There was also a bar at the front that Millie was in charge of.
One night, a Confederate general walked in to play cards with the other men. He and Millie caught each other’s eye. He started bringing his fiddle to the bar to serenade her.
They fell in love and decided to get married. May had a beautiful wedding gown made for Millie, and everyone was so excited. But on the day of the wedding, the groom’s friends dropped some bad news.
The night before, they had gone out to play cards. The groom won some money, and the guy who lost the money was very upset about it, so he shot him. Millie was devastated and ran back to the bar.
She started cleaning the bar while wearing her wedding gown, and no one could convince her to stop cleaning or take off the dress. About a year later, she passed away from a broken heart. Since then, she has haunted the Dauphine Orleans Hotel.

Fast forward to the future, and a lady from California was in the area for a business trip. She was in the hotel’s courtyard when she looked up and saw a girl wearing a white, tattered gown on the balcony.
She called up to the girl to compliment her dress, thinking that she must’ve had a really good time at her wedding last night. But the girl just looked at her before melting down into the balcony. The lady was so shaken up that she could hardly sleep for the rest of her stay.
Another time, someone sleeping in room 420 was woken up one night by the ghost of a Confederate general. People believe that was Millie’s groom.
Hopefully, the two of them are together forever in the afterlife. It just goes to show love continues on, even after death.
