One day, TikToker Victoria (@victoriastormauthor) was sitting at her dining table, drinking coffee, when she heard someone coming down the stairs. But the footsteps stopped halfway down the stairs. At first, she tried to rationalize it.
“Now my oldest son, he tends to do that because he likes to watch his phone when he’s walking down the stairs, and he’ll just pause in the middle of walking to watch his video,” said Victoria.
“But it didn’t sound like his steps, and there were no video sounds.”
She thought her younger son might be trying to creep down the stairs to scare her, so she announced that she could hear him. She was met with silence, followed by a couple more footsteps.
So, she got up and walked over to take a look. No one was on the stairs. As unsettling as the experience was, it was not the first time that she had heard ghostly footsteps.
This has actually happened around a dozen times in her house. She thinks it might be time to bust out some sage and do a little cleansing.
Naturally, many TikTok users took to the comments section to share their own eerie experiences with footsteps that belonged to seemingly no one.
“We were renting an apartment, and every night around 3 a.m., we would hear heavy furniture moving in the upstairs apartment. We went and knocked on the door a few times, and nobody answered, so after a few weeks of this, we went and complained at the management office. They told us that the apartment has been empty for over a year. They checked, and it was completely empty,” commented one user.
“The house I grew up in was built on my grandfather’s land, and nothing weird ever happened there that we know of, but we used to hear what sounded like someone walking from my room to the stairs. Same path every time,” wrote another.

“One of the houses I lived in about 13 years ago had all kinds of paranormal stuff happen. There were hardwood floors and stairs, and I always heard steps coming up. The first time, I was all alone and heard it. I assumed my boyfriend had forgotten something when he left, so I just asked, ‘What did you forget?’ No answer, no more steps,” added someone else.
Overall, stories like Victoria’s tend to strike a nerve because they fall into an uncomfortable gray area between explainable and paranormal.
Old houses settle, and floorboards creak, so our minds try to fill in the blanks. But when the sounds are consistent and familiar, it’s hard not to wonder if something else is sharing your space.
So, the question remains: have you ever experienced any weird phenomena in your house?
