Sometimes, the truth is stranger than fiction, which TikToker Kim (@mrs_kimpossible) learned the hard way. She was happily married to her husband for 16 years.
Everything seemed to be going well until one day, when her husband got a weird look on his face and told her that they needed to talk in a voice she had never heard before.
They headed upstairs to talk, and he informed her that he didn’t love her anymore, and he hadn’t for a long time. He had already decided that he was leaving her. Kim was shocked. None of it made sense.
Just then, the doorbell rang, and he told her to answer the door. She was met by two armed police officers. They said that her husband had called because he was being held against his will.
“Apparently, my ex-husband called the police while he was on his way home, driving, and said he was being held against his will,” Kim said.
“I found out later it was because he didn’t feel like he could really walk out with my daughter crying. It would be hard on him, and he knew he needed to go.
“Unbeknownst to me, he had a girlfriend and her daughter who were waiting for him to spend Easter weekend with them, and I didn’t know that, so he was on a mission to leave no matter what because he had to get to his girlfriend.”
When he broke the news to their 12-year-old daughter, she started sobbing. She asked him if he had cheated on her mom, and he admitted he did.
He grabbed a garbage bag, filled it with a bunch of his stuff, and walked out with the police officers.

The next morning, Kim was served with divorce papers. He did not want any custody rights or visitation time with their daughter. He quit his job and left them with no benefits or money. Kim was a stay-at-home mom.
After he left, she found out all the terrible things he had been doing. For one, he had been planning on leaving for a long time, so he was able to drain the bank account.
Next, she discovered a long chain of emails between her now ex-husband and a woman. It didn’t seem to be a girlfriend, but Kim reached out to get some answers.
It turned out that Kim’s ex-husband had been spreading all kinds of lies about her—that she was psychotic, abusive, living in a mental institution, and had issues with substance abuse, to name a few.
The night he left, the first thing he did was go to a hotel room and email the woman, who was his best friend. The woman sent Kim the three-page-long email he wrote to her.
That was when Kim realized that this was much bigger than a simple divorce. Her husband had been living a separate life for a long time. When the woman learned the truth, she stopped speaking to him and became friends with Kim.
Kim then found his girlfriend on social media and called her. His girlfriend was not happy and only gave Kim three minutes to speak. Kim explained how he had abandoned his own daughter. The girlfriend ended up kicking him out.
Additionally, Kim found a hard drive on his computer containing multiple aliases, accounts, and girlfriends. He had fathered other children and was juggling many different families.
He even flew to see his girlfriends so that they wouldn’t run into Kim in town. In one message, he even spoke of “getting rid of” Kim if he could.
Now, Kim is sharing her story in the hopes of helping anyone else who might be going through a similar ordeal. If her story helps even just one person, it’s all worth it to her.
