For a long time, TikToker Maria (@mariatan888) never understood why people would do something as low-effort as getting drinks on a first date instead of dinner until she went on the worst date of her life.

So, she met this guy who she thought was a good match for her, and they talked for a couple of weeks before planning a date. She told him that her favorite food was sushi. He informed her that he was actually allergic to seafood. So, they decided to go to a steakhouse.

They met up at the restaurant. She arrived on time, but he was 10 minutes late. Fifteen minutes before the date, he had asked what her favorite color was.

She told him that it was red. He showed up with a bouquet of filler flowers. She didn’t really like the flowers and thought he would have made a better impression if he had just arrived on time.

They finally got seated inside. He asked multiple times if he could sit next to her instead of across from her because the restaurant was noisy and he couldn’t hear her. She told him no each time.

Once it was time to order appetizers, he told her to get whatever she wanted. She ordered hamachi crudo, which was one of her favorite appetizers.

When it arrived at their table, he got upset that she had ordered a seafood appetizer because he was allergic to it.

“So sorry to anyone who has allergies, but he had made it clear his allergies were not severe and had originally offered the first date to be at a sushi restaurant. If he didn’t want me to get the appetizer, he shouldn’t have told me it was okay to get it,” she clarified in the caption of her video.

Then, he still kept wanting to sit next to her. She had to explain to him that no means no, and she wasn’t going to change her mind.

He started asking her if she wanted to go out with him after dinner, but she already knew that she didn’t want to see him ever again, so she stated that she had plans with a friend.

He kept insisting that she ditch her friends so they could go out and drink. At this point, she was really uncomfortable, and all she wanted to do was leave. The one highlight of the night was the food.

“Looking back, I should have just left in the middle of the dinner, but I just didn’t know what to do,” said Maria.

“I literally never had a bad date before. So, I understand why people meet for drinks now because I could tell from meeting him for like 10 minutes that I wasn’t going to like him.”

Edit: so sorry to anyone who has allergies, but he had made it clear his allergies were not severe & had originally offered the first date to be at a sushi restaurant. If he didn’t want me to get the appetizer, he shouldn’t have told me it was okay to get it. I have strict boundaries and am not a people pleaser but it’s so gross when people won’t take no for an answer. Also sry for the excessive filler words I’m working on it ? #firstdates #dating #storytime
