Eleven years ago, TikToker Elsa (@misselsaot) and her husband bought a house that came with a dog. At the time, they had just graduated from college in 2015 and were casually house hunting.

They happened to stumble upon a place that was for sale. It was way out of their price range, but they decided to check it out anyway because the property looked really cool.

The sellers were moving to Florida, so their neighbor let Elsa and their husband into the house. There was a dog roaming around the house.

The dog was named Peaches, and she was old but sweet. The people who had lived in the house consisted of a family of four or five kids and a couple in their forties.

“Long story short, my husband and I end up buying this house,” said Elsa. “It was way too much house for us at the time, but we were super excited. It had a pond in the front yard. It was like a little cul-de-sac street out in the country.”

At closing, the couple asked Elsa and her husband if they could leave Peaches at the house. She was so advanced in age that they didn’t want to uproot her from the home she had known her whole life.

Elsa and her husband felt that they didn’t really have a choice in the matter. They also weren’t expecting to have a new house and an elderly pet to take care of.

But Peaches was super sweet and adorable, so they agreed to it anyway. Later, they texted the sellers, asking about Peaches’ diet and veterinarian. They needed to call the vet to release ownership of Peaches to Elsa and her husband.

Peaches was a nine-and-a-half-year-old Labrador retriever and hadn’t gotten any regular shots in a while. Elsa and her husband also discovered that Peaches was never allowed inside the house.

They had to gently coax her into the laundry room. They ended up getting another dog to give Peaches a companion in her old age, and the two pups got along well. She finally passed away in 2017.

In the comments section, many TikTok users praised Elsa for taking Peaches in after her owners abandoned her. Others simply couldn’t fathom abandoning the family pet.

“Such sad excuses to leave their elderly dog, but also sounds like she was never really important to them to begin with. But the rest of Peaches’ years were undoubtedly her best,” commented one user.

“My son would never leave our dog. Like, I can’t imagine doing that to my kids. He would refuse to leave the house if we left the dog,” stated another.

“I’m so glad you guys found her and gave her the life she deserved. I don’t understand how people could leave their dog after nine and a half years,” wrote a third.

One of the craziest things that ever happened to us tbh. ? I totally know there’s some reasons that dogs have to be rehomed but this one just made us so sad. We didn’t want her to end up at the pound or just run away looking for her owners… We’re so happy we got to be her parents even if it was just for a few years ?#petsoftiktok #tiktokdogs #homebuyer #dogsoftiktok #newhouse
