Dating in New York City is already a notorious grind (trust me, I’ve been there), but getting stood up by a guy who uses a (potentially fake) personal assistant to screen you at the door is really something else.

Sarah (@sarahrsalvatore on TikTok) met a guy on a dating app who was really good-looking, and he instantly messaged her after they matched, asking her out for drinks.

Sarah likes guys who cut right to the chase, as opposed to investing in a lot of chitchat before a first date, since it means Sarah won’t be wasting her time in the end.

Sarah happened to be free on the night the guy suggested going out, which worked out perfectly, since she will not rearrange her schedule for a man.

Sarah arrived at the restaurant where she had agreed to meet the guy, whom she’s calling Jason for the sake of the story.

When Sarah walked into the place, a man came up to greet her, so she assumed that he was the host or something along those lines.

This man then asked Sarah if she was there for Jason, and she confirmed that she was, figuring he had made a reservation at this restaurant and they were just expecting her at that hour.

“He was like, ‘Oh, ok, I’m his assistant. I’m going to go let him know you’re here.’ And mind you, I matched with this guy…I was just like, what? Like, so confused, and I didn’t get his number, this was like really quick, like we matched maybe at like 12 and this is like 7,” Sarah explained in her video.

The guy walked off, and Sarah could see him on the phone while she waited for Jason to show up. Sarah said she had a cute outfit on.

She had a black high-neck shirt on, a black mini skirt, a red leather jacket, brown tights, and heels. It’s her go-to look for first dates.

The guy came back to Sarah and announced that it wasn’t going to work out and that Jason would not be coming that night. Since Sarah was already there, she sat down at a bar and had herself a drink by herself instead of going home.

Later on, she shared what happened with her friends, who had an interesting theory about who Jason really was.

“When I was telling [that story] to my friends, [they said] ‘that guy’ was definitely Jason, like the assistant. But like, how weird was that?” Sarah wondered.

She ended up unmatching the guy on the dating app and reporting him. And that is how Sarah got stood up in the most insane way. Dating in New York City is pretty wild, isn’t it?
