When TikToker Kate (@greazybarbie) was 22 years old, she nearly flew to El Salvador to see a guy she met in rehab. But the trip came to an abrupt halt when his girlfriend messaged Kate and told her that he had beaten her up and given her an infection.
So, on her first day in rehab in Hawaii, she walked over to the pavilion for some fresh air after pouring herself three cups of coffee. That was when she saw someone with beautiful, flowing blonde hair sitting in a chair.
When he turned around, she saw that he had a gorgeous face. He started speaking to her in a Spanish accent.
She was immediately intrigued and started to enjoy rehab a little more. Then, she found out that he had a girlfriend, so she just began considering him as a friend and eye candy.
They watched movies and meteor showers together at night. Finally, they both left rehab.
“We both graduate rehab; we both go our separate ways,” said Kate. “I do some stalking because I still have a little rat brain, and I find him on Instagram, and he lives in another country. I’m not thinking anything is going to come out of this. I’m just trying to get my eye candy.”
They started messaging each other, and the messages quickly became dirty. His relationship was on the rocks. She thought they had broken up, so she made plans to visit him in El Salvador. Everyone in her life told her that it was a bad idea, but she brushed them off.
She was about to book her ticket when she received a message. At first, she thought it was her crush in El Salvador, but she quickly realized it was actually his girlfriend.
Kate’s heart dropped. His girlfriend also sent video footage of him breaking her door in and trying to punch her.
“He did punch her, but she didn’t get footage of that,” said Kate. “I do see the bruise; she does send me footage of that. And then she sends me a video of him begging her not to tell anybody, and he’s trying to pay her off.”
After that, Kate messaged him and told him that she was no longer going to El Salvador. When he asked why, she revealed what she had learned.
He tried to lie his way out of it, claiming that his girlfriend had just gotten into a surfing accident and was making it all up.
Of course, Kate did not believe him. For a while, he continued begging her to visit him, but she never did. Eventually, he grew tired of the begging and unfollowed her on social media. Overall, the moral of the story here is never date guys you meet in rehab.
