TikToker @txcstories shares stories sent in by her followers, and according to one woman, a disagreement with an in-law sparked a phone call and the end of her marriage.

Her mother-in-law slapped her eight-year-old autistic son for not sharing his favorite toy. When she found out, she contacted social services, but was told there was nothing they could do because it was an isolated incident.

So, she decided to take matters into her own hands and teach her mother-in-law a lesson she would never forget. She rummaged through her mother-in-law’s jewelry box and put on all the jewelry she had inherited from her mother.

When she went downstairs, her mother-in-law demanded that she take off the jewelry immediately. She responded by slapping her mother-in-law across the face for refusing to share, enacting the same form of punishment that her mother-in-law used on her son.

“She called the police,” narrated @txcstories. “The same woman who slapped my eight-year-old autistic son across the face so hard, she left him cowering under her kitchen table with a red handprint on his cheek because he didn’t want to hand over his favorite toy. Suddenly became very interested in assault when it happened to her.”

When the police showed up, they wanted her side of the story as well. She told them exactly what happened and explained that all she had done was apply her mother-in-law’s logic to the situation.

“I borrowed some jewelry, she didn’t want to share, she got angry, and she got the exact same punishment she decided was appropriate for my child,” said @txcstories.

“The only difference was that the person I slapped was a full-grown woman, and the person she slapped was an eight-year-old child.”

Once the whole story was laid out in the open, her mother-in-law was faced with an awkward choice. She either needed to own up to her wrongdoing or admit that her daughter-in-law was right. In the end, her mother-in-law chose not to pursue any charges.

Her husband was furious that she had hit his mother. He was more mad about that than his mom hitting their child. They have since separated. Her ex is now living with his mom, while she takes care of the child that he failed to protect.

“I signed up to be a mother to one child, not a mother to a full-grown man who still needs someone to explain the difference between right and wrong,” said @txcstories.

“And as for my mother-in-law, the last image I have of her is her standing in her living room, absolutely raging after being slapped into next week by her own dead mother’s rings.”

The incident begs the question: if it’s unacceptable to hit an adult, why would it ever be acceptable to hit a child?
