If your kid assaulted someone in their stepfamily and then got cut off by all of them, would you have any sympathy for them?
This 39-year-old woman and her 32-year-old ex split up a decade ago, and they have a 13-year-old daughter named Maya. Her ex got remarried when Maya was 7, and her ex only spent 8 months dating his new wife before introducing her to Maya.
“From day one, Maya was cold and lowkey nasty to her, and stepmom brushed it off for years since she was just a kid, but once Maya turned 12, and it STILL hadn’t changed, we did therapy, dad tried bonding trips, literally everything,” she explained.
“[Her] stepmom quietly went full ‘nacho parent’ mode and just focused on her two bio kids instead. Me and [Maya’s] stepmom were never close but always civil, and when she pulled back from Maya, she pulled back from our whole ‘friendly exes’ thing too, which, NGL, I understood.”
“So last month, Maya went over to grab a dress for a wedding, and instead of leaving after, she went snooping in [her] stepmom’s closet and took one of her bags without asking.”
Maya’s stepmom caught her red-handed, and they did say some heated things to one another. Maya then decided to push an entire line of family photos onto the floor, smashing them. Glass flew everywhere.
Maya’s 6-year-old brother then asked Maya why she even comes to their house, and Maya threw a glass at him, which hit him in his eyebrow. Maya’s brother had to get a Band-Aid for the cut.
Next, Maya posted about her fight with her stepfamily on her private Instagram account while everyone was still upset. Maya’s behavior was caught on camera, so there’s no ambiguity, and she has seen the tape.
“[Maya’s] stepmom told her to leave and never come back, and her dad backed her 100%; he’s cutting Maya off for good now; he even had to get a restraining order after she wouldn’t stop calling and showing up at his office,” she continued.
“Maya’s been crying to me, saying it’s not fair, and I told her straight up that her own behavior definitely caused this. I’m not gonna sugarcoat it for her.”
She’s left wondering if she’s a jerk for telling Maya she got what she deserved and for failing to side with her own kid.
Maya is certainly old enough to understand that her actions have consequences, and I applaud her for showing Maya some tough love, because she needs it.
Maya has been acting like a nasty little brat for no good reason. I think she should get Maya an individual therapist to help her get to the bottom of why she’s being a troll. Maya is lucky her stepmom didn’t press charges against her.
