Two or three years ago, TikToker Sarah (@itsarahearmeow) met a guy while she was out having a karaoke night. They had decent chemistry, so he asked for her phone number, and they proceeded to make plans for a date.
“We live pretty far across town from each other,” said Sarah. “I would say like a 30-minute drive, maybe 40 minutes with traffic. But he picks a place that’s really close to where he lives.”
“He didn’t ask me where I wanted to go, if I wanted to meet halfway, or if he wanted to come to me, which I kind of think is a red flag.”
She took an Uber to the restaurant. He had chosen a Korean barbecue place. He also picked out everything on the menu. They had a really good time together. At the end of the date, he asked to split the bill.
She didn’t mind splitting the bill, but she felt that he should have footed the bill since he was the one who asked her out in the first place.
After the date, he asked her if she wanted to go out for a drink, and she agreed. At the second place, she brought up her feelings about who should have paid for the date. He offered to buy the drinks to make it up to her.
They went into the smoking area at the place, and he ended up smoking a total of three spliffs on top of having had two drinks at dinner and two more drinks at the second place.
“I’m noticing him getting more and more messed up as the day goes on,” said Sarah. “I’m getting kind of tired, so I’m like, I’m going to end it before he gets too drunk.”
But before she could leave, he ran to the bathroom to throw up. When he came back, he said he was fine, but she wanted to call an Uber. They said their goodbyes, and he started to walk home.

As she got into the car, she glanced in the rearview mirror and saw the guy running down the street after her. He was also calling her, so she thought she might have forgotten something.
When she answered the phone, he asked her why she had left. He was so intoxicated that he didn’t even remember they had already parted ways.
The next day, he texted her, saying that he had a great time with her. He didn’t address the fact that he got so drunk that he threw up and forgot that they said goodbye to each other.
She texted him back, saying that it wasn’t going to work out romantically, but they could be friends. He asked her if they could at least hook up, and that was the end of her interaction with him.
