Friendly piece of advice to the Charlotte Knights, per the weekend of May 4 and 5 – let the Wookiees win.
In celebration of Star Wars (May the Fourth Be With You, and the more recently adopted Revenge of the Fifth), that weekend will see the Toledo Mud Hens, a minor league affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, suit up in Chewbacca-inspired uniforms. The Mud Hens also gave a tip of the cap to Star Wars last year, but 2012 only saw the grounds crew in Jedi garb, with fans also coming in costume.
2013, on the other hand, will be a weekend-long spectacle. On top of the uniforms, there will be Yoda Soda, Darth Chocolate Brownie Sundae, face painting, a costume photo booth – it’s going to be a regular Mos Eisley out there. Saturday night will feature Star Wars-themed fireworks, and both days will see people dressed as Darth Vader, Chewbacca, Princes Leia, Stormtroopers, and X-Wing pilots. And, best of all, the first 3,000 fans on both days will get free kazoos to play along with Star Wars music at the end of the game, which might end up being the greatest musical event since the vuvuzelas at the 2010 World Cup.
