Rottweiler Hurt Herself While Hiking So A Search And Rescue Team Carried Her Back To Safety
Lusha is an 8-year-old Rottweiler that lives in Marina Del Rey, California, with her owner. Recently, Lusha joined her owner for a multi-day hike in Los Padres National Forrest.
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office says that on the last day of their trip, “Lusha injured her front paw and was unable to walk.”
Luckily, Lusha’s owner was able to get in touch with some nearby hikers that had a satellite device.
From there, Lusha’s owner reached out to a friend of hers with the device, and the friend in turn connected with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office to call for help.

The Upper Ojai Search and Rescue was sent to help rescue Lusha, and they set out at around 9 a.m. on April 23rd.
“SAR team members hiked approximately 4.5 miles east on the Sespe Creek Trail and located Lusha and her owner on the opposite side of the creek, near Bear Creek Campground,” The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office explained in a press release.

“SAR team members utilized a Litter Trail Wheel to transport Lusha on the trail with the intent of getting her home.”
“The Litter Trail Wheel is a lightweight stretcher, attached to an oversized all-terrain wheel used to transport injured hikers on trails and over other rough terrain.”
“The Litter Trail Wheel proved to be the perfect tool for the 80lb canine, who sat patiently on the stretcher for the duration of the 4.5-mile hike back to the trailhead.”

“Yesterday, the team was called on to assist an injured hiker. Lusha, an 8-year-old, 80 pound Rottweiler, had an injured paw and could not return to the trailhead,” Upper Ojai Search and Rescue said in a Facebook post.
“Six team members used a wheeled litter to assist Lusha almost 5 miles back to the trailhead. She was a very good girl, and seemed happy for the help.”
