11-Year-Old Left With Horrific Burns On Nearly Her Entire Body After Being Involved In A Backyard Accident At A Sleepover

Wichita, Kansas. On June 13th, 11-year-old Priscilla was having a sleepover at her friend’s house. She and her friend frequently did this, and they loved staying up late to chat and play.

At around 10:30 that evening, Priscilla’s mom got a call from the friend’s mom that Priscilla was on fire in their backyard.

“My first thought was she was overreacting,” Priscilla’s mom explained about the phone call.

“I thought I would show up and drive her to the ER for a burn on a finger or maybe a hand from something dumb like cooking or a firework or something.”

“Never crossed my mind something bigger until I saw the panic in the house when I pulled up…”

At some point before the terrible accident, Priscilla and her friend snuck into the backyard after climbing through a bedroom window so they could go play outside together.

They had taken noodles, rubbing alcohol, lighters, and tin foil outside with them. They took some rocks from the yard and set them up like a little campfire circle.

Priscilla and her friend used the lighters and the rubbing alcohol they had taken outside to try to make their fire.

Priscilla was holding the bottle of rubbing alcohol, and a flame got stuck inside the lid when she closed it.

The oxygen inside the rubbing alcohol container caught fire, and the bottle exploded all over Priscilla.

The clothing that Priscilla was wearing ended up melting into her skin, and she suffered mostly 3rd-degree burns across her entire body.

“They were always doing something and making something,” Priscilla’s mom said.

“Priscilla has done this her whole life. And I’ve always warned her about experimenting, and how not everything can be mixed together, and to always ask me before doing something, especially if you see it online.”

“That I won’t ever be mad if you ask me first. I was always worried about things like borax when making slime. I’ve warned my children about hand sanitizer when it became more popular with covid. I would have never thought about this…”

So far, Priscilla has had to undergo 4 different surgeries, and her time in the operating room is far from over.

“She will be having surgeries throughout her life,” Priscilla’s mom wrote. “Her body won’t go through puberty like others would.”

“She will have scars practically all over her body. With the treatment we decided to go with for her skin, she should have less of that “spider web looking skin” (my words), and more of scars of lines were the old skin and new skin lines up at but will have some of that normal skin grafting that people see in some places (surgeon’s words).”

“She will have years with her body in full wraps. She will probably never be able to play an “organized school sport” (surgeon’s words).”

“But he said he will never say never because kids are always surprising him. And support systems are what’s important the most and it seems like she already has a great support system.”

Priscilla’s grandparents have created a GoFundMe to help cover the costs of her medical expenses which you can donate to here if you wish to do so.
