Baby Girl Suffers An Accident While With Her Babysitter And Now She Has A Brain Injury

St. Louis, Missouri. Elsie Lichtenberg is a 7-month-old baby girl living in St. Louis along with her family. She has three older siblings.

On May 25th, Elsie’s parents dropped her off at her babysitter’s house. There was some kind of accident that happened while Elsie was there, and now she has a brain injury.

“Elsie was knocked unconscious and had a seizure. Paramedics were called and took her to the nearest hospital,” Ryan Kinealy, a friend of Elsie’s dad, explained on GoFundMe.

Several hours afterward, Elsie was taken to the St. Louis Children’s Hospital. While she was being airlifted there, she had 2 more seizures.

“She sustained a skull fracture, bleeding and severe swelling within her brain and brain damage throughout the entirety of the right side of her brain, and swelling in her neck.”

Elsie had to be placed in a medically induced coma. Then, doctors put a tube inside of her brain to drain out fluid and try to alleviate the pressure.

The doctors taking care of Elsie said that “her brain injury will be substantial due to the damage being throughout all the layers of every part of the right side of her brain.”

“It is with a heavy heart that I write this,” Elsie’s dad Bradley wrote in a Facebook post.

“Tuesday there was an incident at the babysitter’s house. My beautiful, innocent 7-month-old baby Elsie is now fighting for her life.”

“She has severe brain damage, we do not know what her or our future is going to look like. We are trying to cope with this senseless act. Please keep my baby in your prayers.”

Two days ago, Elsie’s mom Cassie shared an update on the GoFundMe page created for Elsie.

“Elsie is no longer in a medically induced coma but continues to be sedated to keep her comfortable,” Cassie wrote.

“There’s continues to be substantial swelling within her brain but her intracranial pressure has mostly remained within the tolerated levels and she’s stable in the PICU.”

“She’s been able to move the right side of her body but not the left. Changes have been made to her seizure medication regime due to clusters of seizures. She has a long, difficult road ahead of her but we pray that she continues to make steady progress forward.”

Elsie’s family really does not know what her future will look like at this point in time.
