Last Christmas She Splurged On A Pair Of Expensive Boots For Herself But Then She Let Her Friend Borrow Them And They Wound Up Ruined
A 22-year-old woman splurged on a pair of expensive boots for herself last Christmas. She spent $550 on the boots, which are made of cowhide, and since then, she wore them approximately 5 times.
Every time she wore her boots, she made sure to take really good care of them. The boots are very special to her because she never treats herself like this.
Her 24-year-old friend named Rylee knew about her boots and wanted to wear them out to an event.
She agreed to loan her boots to Rylee since they frequently share clothes and Rylee has never given her a reason to not trust that she’ll care for her things.
“She has always respected my clothing and I have always done the same to her,” she explained.
“When Rylee asked to borrow the boots, the standard was set that they were very important, she was aware of the price I paid and promised to take especially good care of them.”
“No wearing them in rain (because they’re made of cowhide) etc. She made me feel very comfortable in letting her borrow these boots.”
After the event Rylee attended was done, she reached out to her several times asking for her boots to be returned to her.
Rylee kept creating excuses as to why she couldn’t return her boots, and she began to get annoyed with Rylee over this.

Then, Rylee told her that she was spending the holidays in Colorado, and she insisted that Rylee needed to give her boots back to her before then.
Rylee also had borrowed a pair of her pants that she wanted back as well.
“She replied by asking to keep the pants a little longer and take them to Colorado with her,” she said.
“I agreed and let her take them. (Remember I asked for the boots and the pants back) I then come to find out via Instagram that she had left for Colorado without letting me know, which meant I wasn’t given the opportunity to get the boots back from her.”
“Rylee then posts another story on her Instagram days later and me being great at small details I see in a reflection that Rylee had taken my $550 cowhide boots to Colorado where it is SNOWING.”
“I immediately respond to the story and call her out for 1. Not letting me pick up my shoes and 2. Taking them without my permission.”
She really only gave Rylee permission to wear her boots to that one event.
“I have now received a text from Rylee saying that she wanted to tell me something but that “I can’t be mad” and that she was going to fix it,” she continued.
“Rylee had accidentally scuffed the front part of the cowhide boots leaving a very obvious bald spot. The fur in that area is black and the leather is not. Immediately I am devastated.”
She couldn’t hide from Rylee that she was angry with her, and she reprimanded Rylee for packing her boots and taking them to Colorado without her knowing.
Rylee replied back with pretending to not be aware that she wanted her boots back, despite the fact that she asked Rylee for them several times leading up to the holidays.
Rylee came up with a solution to take her boots somewhere to be repaired, but she contacted the brand who made her boots to see what they suggested.
The brand told her that she had two options; a cobbler could attempt to dye the scuffed spot in an effort to make the damage less noticeable, or she could ask a cobbler to try to match the cowhide and replace the spot.
The brand did mention that she probably wouldn’t be happy with either option, so she’s got no choice but to live with ruined boots.
She’s now wondering if she should let Rylee keep her ruined boots, but ask her to buy her new ones to the tune of $550, or if she should just suck up one of the repair options and deal with the fact that Rylee destroyed them on her.
