The Owners Of A San Francisco Restaurant Kicked Out Several Police Officers After They Seated Them For Simply For Being On-Duty And After Receiving Major Backlash, They Quickly Deleted Their Instagram Post Announcing What They Did

San Francisco, California. Hilda and Jesse is a restaurant in San Francisco owned by Rachel Sillcocks and Kristina Liedags Compton.

On Saturday, December 4th, Rachel and Kristina took to the Hilda and Jesse Instagram account to announce that they kicked several police officers out of their restaurant the day before simply for being on duty.

“Shortly after seating them, our staff felt uncomfortable with the presence of their multiple weapons,” Rachel and Kristina wrote.

Obviously, on-duty uniformed police officers are clearly armed, so why did Rachel, Kristina, and their staff seat the police officers and then decide to ask them to leave if the fact that they were armed in the first place was the problem?

The Instagram announcement Rachel and Kristina made completely and utterly backfired on them in ways they never probably imagined.

People flooded their comments section and their Yelp reviews; berating the women for what they did and promising to boycott their restaurant.

The one-star Yelp reviews that flooded in after Rachel and Kristina’s Instagram announcement got so out of hand, Yelp temporarily blocked anyone from being able to leave a review.

Even San Francisco’s Chief of Police, Bill Scott, addressed the situation.

“Community engagement is a core principle of SFPD’s 21st-century police reforms, and we are intentional about asking our officers to support local businesses and get to know those they’re sworn to safeguard,” Chief Scott tweeted.

“The San Francisco Police Department stands for safety with respect, even when it means respecting wishes that our officers and I find discouraging and personally disappointing.”

“I believe the vast majority of San Franciscans welcome their police officers, who deserve to know that they are appreciated for the difficult job we ask them to do — in their uniforms — to keep our neighborhoods and businesses safe.”

“I hope you remember that if you ever receive a call for help from this establishment that you do not respond – we don’t want their staff to be “uncomfortable” with your presence while carrying guns,” one person commented on Chief Scott’s tweet.

“Chief I am sorry that people like this are out there, I have full respect for all police officers and I will never go to this place of business and will tell anyone I know not to go to this business ever again,” another person said.

“Boycott Hilda and Jesse Restaurant. Absolutely ridiculous!” a third wrote.

Looks like Rachel and Kristina couldn’t handle the backlash they received, as they quickly deleted that Instagram announcement, locked the ability for anyone to comment on their posts, and offered up an apology, in which they claimed they “made a mistake.”

Here’s the apology that Rachel and Kristina issued, below.
