She’s Online Dating A Man In Nigeria, But She’s Not Sure If This Is A Scam Or Not

One woman found herself on a dating app hoping to meet a nice man when she wound up getting a message from a man located in Nigeria.
She instantly made it clear to this man that she did not want to get involved with a relationship that was long-distance, and the man replied that he totally understood where she was coming from.
She ended up chatting with him on the dating platform for the rest of that day, and they asked one another about their interests and lives.
Towards the end of the evening, their conversation came to an end, but when she woke up the next day, she saw another message from him.
“…But I was fresh out of a breakup, just testing the waters, and I didn’t want to commit to anything, especially with someone overseas,” she explained.
“A couple of weeks later, he wrote me back, saying he never forgot me, and that talking to anyone else was anticlimactic.”
“I took this with a grain of salt but said hello back, and we messaged for a while.”
She began speaking to this Nigerian man a month ago, and they have been having conversations on a daily basis since they first met.
She talks to him more than once a day; sometimes it is through texting, or on the app, and they also have done multiple video calls that have lasted hours on end.

She knows so much about him at this point in time, and over their video calls, she has gotten to see what his house is like and what the area he lives in is like too.
She feels so attached to him now. This man is highly educated and he also speaks English far better than she even does.
“I have a doctorate in engineering if that tells you anything,” she said. “I asked a long time ago how he found me because I had my settings on the dating app to local singles only.”
“He told me his settings were different, and he had been looking for someone outside his country because his interests could not be related to the typical Nigerian girl: anime, video games, Family Guy, etc.”
“I feel confident he is genuine in all he says. He has never asked anything of me and often encourages me to eat well and get enough sleep. We can talk and never run out of subjects. It feels right.”
She is convinced that what she has with this man is real, however, she is a bit worried about him, since Nigeria does have a whole romance scam industry.
Several days ago, she did reveal to her parents that’s she’s in an online relationship with this man, and they freaked out in a way that left her reeling.
“I understand their fears are real,” she continued. “Many lonely and vulnerable women have been conned, being left financially ruined with devastated hearts.”
This man has never once asked her for money, which has her feeling like she’s probably in the clear.
