Her Fiancé Passed Away, But She Doesn’t Want To Give Her Engagement Ring Back To His Family Even Though It’s An Heirloom

A 31-year-old woman was with her 37-year-old fiancé named Jake for 6 years. Sadly, Jake passed away recently without any warning, and she’s crushed to have lost him.
Instead of getting to plan a wedding with Jake, she was left planning his funeral, and she did it all alone.
She also completely paid for Jake’s funeral without the help of his family members.
The day arrived when it was time for her to lay Jake to rest, and literally at his funeral, his brother Jim confronted her about her engagement ring.
Her ring is quite special to Jake’s family, and Jim expected that she would give it back to their family in light of Jake’s passing.
“For context, the engagement ring with which Jake proposed is an ancient family heirloom,” she explained.
“It’s a gorgeous ring but what makes it priceless is the story behind it. Jake got the ring from his grandma a month after we started dating, he claimed he knew back then he would marry me someday and wanted to get his grandma’s blessings on the ring.”
“When he proposed his grandma already passed away so having the blessings put on the ring made it extra special for the both of us.”
She couldn’t believe that Jim was asking about her engagement ring at Jake’s funeral, and he really did want it back.

Jim mentioned to her that his own girlfriend Stacy had been eyeing the ring and “fell in love with it and the story behind it.”
Even since Stacy laid eyes on her ring, she has been hounding Jim to get her an engagement ring just like it, which obviously can’t happen.
The ring is really special and unique. It’s one of a kind.
Since Jim knew that she would not be able to get married to Jake, he asked if he could have the ring back so he can use it to get engaged to Stacy.
She did point out to Jim that it was super impolite of him to want her ring, before saying that their grandma had given her blessings to her, and not any other woman.
Although she refused to return to the ring at Jake’s funeral, that was not the last she would hear of the ring.
“After the funeral, I got a message from Stacy saying it would mean the world for her to be the new owner of the ring and I could always think of her and Jim’s wedding as the bittersweet ending to my relationship,” she said.
“She said the ring was blessed so one of the grandsons can marry the love of his life, and since Jim is the only living grandson left he has a claim to it. I blocked her.”
Blocking Stacy didn’t make the issue of the ring go away though; Jake’s mom then sent her a message saying that she gets that she’s upset but she can’t have the ring.
She again told Jake’s mom the ring wouldn’t be leaving her hand, and that she fully intends to wear it for the remainder of her life.
“It’s a beautiful symbol of Jake’s love and I won’t let Jim and Stacy sully that memory of him,” she continued.
“The ring is legally mine so all they can do is cry about it and be bitter. They keep harassing me on social media saying I’m a bad person and that I stole the family heirloom to spite Jim and Stacy out of jealousy but I ignore them.”
She did speak to her brother about the ring, and he does think that Jake’s funeral wasn’t the best place for Jim to ask about it, but he believes she needs to return the ring.
Her brother said that since Jake bought her jewelry, she could wear those pieces to remember him by.
According to her brother, Jake’s family can’t in any way replace their heirloom ring, so she should fork it over after all.
Do you think she should listen to her brother and give back the ring?
