While growing up, it is easy to think you are invincible. But, that feeling of being indestructible fades quickly after having a near-death experience.

One user named Rapid_falls263 recently asked the Reddit community to share their closest run-ins with death. The responses are terrifying and only emphasize life’s fragility.

They Were Just A Teenager

“I was heading to school by train and was feeling like sh*t that morning. I even puked halfway to the train but shrugged it off. As I was standing on the platform waiting for the train, I was hoping I would feel better once I sat down.”

“A couple of minutes later, the train arrived, and I waited until the train stopped. Then, I walked towards it.”

“I blinked and was suddenly on my back on the train platform with a circle of people around me and a police officer asking me what day it was. It turns out that I had fainted while walking towards the train and fell down on the track behind the train. A passerby pulled me back up on the platform.”

“Had I positioned myself near the tracks a few seconds earlier– like I normally do– I would have fallen in front of the train. Instead, I got a mild concussion and a scar on my chin from the fall.”

“I had a seizure in the shower. I smashed my head into the faucet when I fell and landed face down.”

“I was turning blue and had a four-inch gash on my head when my boyfriend found me. It took about four minutes of CPR.”

“I do not shower with the bathroom door closed anymore, and I do not shower if someone is not at the apartment with me.”

They Ran A Red Light

“I ran a red left-turn arrow right in front of a Chevy doing close to sixty miles-per-hour.”

“I was already stopped at the light and had been waiting for it to turn green. It was also later in the day, and the sun was positioned directly behind the light.”

“So, sixteen-year-old me looked up and said, ‘yeah, that’s probably green.’ No, it was not.”

“I got t-boned right where the front and rear doors meet on the passenger side. The part of the frame that separates the doors got pushed all the way to the center console, and I smacked my head against it.”

“I just remember waking up in a daze with a lot of blood on the right side of my face. Fast forward through the ambulance ride, and the doctors said several fragments of my skull were a piece of paper thickness away from entering my brain.”

The Hospital Staff Accidentally Overdosed Them

“I had neurosurgery in 2015. I woke up in the recovery room and, in an effort to control my pain as I woke up, the staff accidentally gave me an overdose of narcotics.”

“They lost all of my vital signs and had a difficult time bringing me back.”

“When I woke up, I was in torturous pain and asked why. I was told I had an allergic reaction to narcotics and that I would only be given Tylenol for the duration of my recovery. I was in so much pain during my hospital stay that I started hallucinating and sometimes lost consciousness from the pain.”

“I later found out the truth. And, I am definitely not allergic to narcotics, by the way.”

They Had A Close Encounter With A Rattle Snake

“I almost stepped on a Mojave rattlesnake when we were miles away from civilization and nowhere near a road.”

“The snake was nestled in some big rocks that made a little hole in the ground. I was going to step there because it looked cool, but right before I did, I had a sixth-sense sort of feeling. I trusted my gut and eventually spotted a baby Mojave rattler right where I was going to step.”

“This was one of the few times I have experienced my instincts protect me like that.”

“Plus, I was a child at the time, and it was before everyone carried cell phones. So, if I got bit, I would have been in serious trouble. They are one of the deadliest snakes in America.”

This Guy Almost Fell Off A Cliff

“I slipped on a steep hill with one hundred pounds of seismic cable around my neck and chest. One end caught between some rocks, and the cable started tightening around me while I was sliding down into a river ravine.”

“I could not grab onto anything and saw the edge of the cliff coming up quick.”

“Fortunately, the cable stopped tightening before it got to my throat. That ended up saving me from going off the cliff.”
