A 32-year-old woman spent her teen years growing up in foster care, and her life quickly spiraled out of control.

She then wound up engaging in some bad behaviors, which led to her landing right into some really bad legal issues.

She managed to turn her life around as an adult, but she definitely is not proud of what she went through back then.

When she aged out of the foster care system, she connected with her older brother, and he assisted her in getting her record sealed as well as getting her into college.

She currently has a great job in an industry that she loves, and she actually met her 34-year-old husband at work.

“I’ve been up for a promotion and raise, and it was more or less guaranteed until now,” she explained.

“Weekend before last, we had a work party during which my husband got to talking with our CEO and, after having a bit too much to drink, told him about my juvenile history. The next Monday, I got called in by my boss and was told my promotion would not be happening.”

“I asked why they would do this, and he recounted my history to me in excruciating detail, to the extent that I couldn’t even plead ignorance or claim it was untrue.”

Although her boss felt bad for her, everyone above him did not want her to be promoted at all.

Her boss made it clear that she had not told the truth about having a record (when she did go through the interview process, she said she didn’t have one at all), and he then mentioned that because her trouble with the law involved financial things, that was another reason why she couldn’t get the promotion.

Her boss finished up by letting her know she could still have her current job, but there would never be growth opportunities for her since they just could not trust her to have a leadership kind of role.

“I was heartbroken, and I felt my husband betrayed me,” she said. “We got into a massive fight, and he has apologized profusely and asked me to forgive him because he wasn’t in his right mind.”

“Yesterday, I canceled a very large debit transfer which I’d promised towards an expensive piece I was getting him as a gift for his timepiece collection. I made the offer when we knew I would be getting promoted, and now that I’m not getting my raise, I just don’t want to take that much out of my savings.”

“He hit the roof when he found out because he’s now stuck with a huge bill and accused me of being petty and dishonest for continuing to punish him for a mistake he’s already apologized for.”

She retorted that he should have stopped to consider things before deciding to share details about her past with their coworkers.

Her husband believes that she owes him the gift, and she does have the money to cover the cost of it.

Her husband also stated that she knows all about getting second chances and forgiving people for their mistakes, so he wants her to forgive and forget here.

“I messed up, and I paid for it, and I’ve worked really hard to forgive myself and put my past behind me,” she continued.

“I don’t think it’s fair that over a decade later, I’m still being punished for something I’ve already paid for, even if he did so by accident.”

Her husband is giving her the silent treatment for not following through on purchasing his gift, so she’s curious if she is the one at fault here.

Do you think it was fair of her to go back on getting him his gift after he ruined her promotion?
