She Taught Herself How To Read Tarot Cards, And She’s Explaining How You Can Start Doing This Too

There has been a huge popularization of tarot cards and other metaphysical practices in the past decade or so. I’m not just talking about the new Sabrina series or even the remake of the Charmed series.

A lot of people are turning to pagan practices because it’s what they feel most comfortable with. They feel like they can search for themselves in a way that is true to them.

I personally have bought many beautiful tarot decks, and I have tried teaching myself how to do a reading.

But I don’t understand the cards’ meanings fully. There are so many different websites and postings it’s hard to know which one would be the best to use.

One TikToker named Alexis, who goes by @tinymystic, has shared how she taught herself to read tarot cards.

“I’m going to show you exactly what I did to learn how to read tarot cards,” Alexis explained. “I taught myself, and this is exactly step-by-step what I did to learn.”

“The first thing you’re gonna want to do is understand the logical definition of each card that you’re reading. So, you want to study the cards. You really want to understand what the meaning of the cards are, what the traditional meanings are.”

That makes sense. Whenever I try and learn a new hobby, I take time to study the different techniques and details of how to do the hobby.

“Can you guess what I did? Yeah, I made notes,” Alexis continued. “I made a whole notebook. Ok, so this may seem a little tedious and a little crazy, but for me, I know that even in school, when I would rewrite notes, that’s when things would really sink into my brain.”

“So, if you can look here, I actually made tabs for each suit. I have cups, pentacles, swords, wands, and major arcana.

She goes on to show what the inside of the journal looked like. One of her main points was to decorate or find a journal that you liked and make it your own.

She also added a caption of the website she used to get all the general definitions for each card, which is called www.thetarotguide.com.

Each card got its own page with its general meaning and keywords associated with that card.

There was so much for each card, it’s pretty cool to see how complex tarot cards are.

“If you really wanna learn tarot, you’re going to have to treat it like school,” Alexis said. “Like it’s something that you wanna learn. If you wanna invest time. This is gonna take time.”

“This is the best way to do it, especially if you’re just starting out. I would refer to this all the time a bunch of times. Like, my intuition is telling me something, but I need to know what the main definition of this card is cause I don’t really know. I would go back and be like oh, that makes so much sense.”

She created a tool that worked for her, and she continues to use it when she doesn’t know what the card is necessarily trying to tell her.

She explained that you want to rely on your intuition and the logical meaning, not one or the other, but both.

Once you have done the work to learn, then you can start doing spreads of cards. Either make your own spreads or by looking in tarot books for recommended spreads.

And, of course, you’re going to need a tarot deck, or all of this has been pointless. She recommends that a good starter deck is Rider Waite Tarot Deck. It’s just a very basic deck. She says to study the cards and familiarize yourself with the imagery on each card.

Something a lot of tarot readers suggest is connecting with your deck. Carry it around with you. Cleanse it with herbs and crystals. Putting it under your pillow while you sleep. All of this makes you more in tune with the cards and helps your readings even more.

I never knew there was so much about tarot decks that I didn’t know. Her videos and advice are so helpful that I think I’m going to try and start learning more about tarot decks.
