So, she actually tried to voice her concerns to her friend. According to her, though, her friend just brushed them off and insisted that the fake wedding would just be a way to have some harmless fun. Plus, she got accused of overthinking the whole thing.
And since she still did not want to cause any drama or interfere with her friend’s fake wedding plans, she decided to still go along with the event and attend the ceremony– which in hindsight, was probably a big mistake.
Apparently, as soon as the ceremony began and she saw her friend standing at the altar– surrounded by fake “bridesmaids” and “groomsmen”– she just could not bring herself to watch the event go on. So, she actually just stood up abruptly and left without saying anything to anyone!
Now, her friend is utterly furious with her and is claiming that she totally ruined the “wedding.” She is also feeling pretty terrible for making the day about her and has no idea how to make things right.
“I know I probably should have just gone along with it and pretended to enjoy the fake wedding, but at the same time, I couldn’t shake the feeling that it was all just a huge waste of time and money,” she vented.
So, she has now been left wondering whether refusing to sit through her friend’s fake wedding makes her a total jerk.
Do you think a “fake wedding” is a harmless way to have some fun, or is it really pointless and a waste of money like she claims? Is she allowed to feel uncomfortable with the event? Even so, should she have just declined to attend from the start instead of causing a scene during the “wedding?” If you were in her shoes, how would you reconcile this situation?
