He Received An Offer Of $60,000 Over Market Price On An Inherited Property, But He Would Have To Kick Out His Tenants, Who Have A Terminally Sick Child In Hospice, So Now His Wife Is Angry He Is Refusing To Help His Tenants Out

About eleven years ago, this man, who is forty-seven, inherited a residential property from his father. So, for the past five years, he had been renting out the home to a nice family who had a young five-year-old son.
According to him, the family had been stellar tenants, too, with no issues over the last few years.
Just about a month ago, though, a realtor ended up approaching him with an interesting opportunity. Apparently, the realtor already had a buyer who was very interested in his property.
Plus, the buyer was prepared to offer sixty thousand dollars over the home’s market price just because of its location.
“So this was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up,” he admitted.
Now, his tenants have an annual lease that lasts through mid-March, which means he has always renewed the lease around this time every year.
Instead of doing that, though, he ended up calling the husband– named Michael– to inform the family that he would not be renewing this time.
And to say that Michael was upset would be a drastic understatement. He ultimately learned that Michael and his wife are currently dealing with their young son– who has a terminal heart condition– being in hospice. On top of that, the doctors gave Michael’s son only one or two more months to live.
“I knew the boy was sick, but I never knew it was so serious,” he said.

So, Michael ended up telling him that there was just no way his family could pack up the whole house and find a new rental in time. After all, the hospice Michael’s family is currently staying at is over three hours away.
And honestly, Michael just believes it is wholly unfair of him to expect their family to sacrifice any time they have left with their son to move out. He even got accused of being a “heartless sociopath” for proposing the idea.
Still, he did not want to pass up selling the home, so he ended up proposing a bunch of other possibilities to Michael.
First, he suggested that they enlist a different family member to handle the packing and find a new rental for them.
But, Michael claimed that the only family they have in the area is his wife’s elderly father.
“And I’m not sure that I believe this because they are too young to only have one parent between them, and I’m sure there are siblings somewhere,” he revealed.
Regardless, he later suggested that Michael hire a moving company to take care of the property. Then, he said they could find a rental online or try to stay at an Airbnb for a while.
Unfortunately, though, Michael claimed his family just could not afford a moving company on top of all of the little boy’s medical expenses.
So now, even though he reportedly feels bad about the situation and recognizes that he is making life harder for his tenants, he just does not believe it is his responsibility to care for them.
He also claimed to have given his tenants the legally required notice and does not think he can do anything further to help them out.
But his wife, on the other hand, has a very different perspective. Apparently, she believes that since he will be making so much extra money from the sale, he should offer to foot the bill for a moving company and an Airbnb after Michael’s family leaves hospice.
Quite frankly, though, he just did not want to and said that those bills would cost him “a big chunk of the profit.” Plus, he reiterated to his wife that his tenant’s situation is not his responsibility.
“This is the risk people take when they rent,” he vented.
Nonetheless, his wife has been giving him the cold shoulder ever since he put his foot down on that. So now, he has been left wondering if selling his house instead of renewing the lease of a family with a terminally ill child makes him a real jerk or not.
If you got an offer from a realtor like that, would you want to sell your property, too? At the same time, do you think he is being greedy by refusing to pay for a moving company or Airbnb– especially because he inherited this home in the first place? Does his wife have a right to be giving him the cold shoulder? If you were in his shoes, how would you handle this situation?
