She was confused, though, and asked her sister to elaborate. It was at that point that her sister revealed the wedding was supposed to be a “traditional teme.” In other words, her sister did not believe that her son’s cufflinks correlated with “a traditional American wedding” and didn’t want to cause other guests any discomfort.
But quite frankly, she was still pretty appalled. And shortly after that conversation, she and her husband left to go home. Upon filling her husband in on what happened, he also agreed that her sister’s request was seriously ridiculous.
So, they decided to text her sister and say that if Dreyson was not allowed to wear the cufflinks, then their family would not be attending the wedding at all. Her sister just did not understand that, though, and wound up texting her parents and her siblings about the situation.
And since then, she has been dealing with a ton of family drama. Thankfully, some people have taken her side. But others claim that since it’s her sister’s wedding, she and her family should respect her sister’s rules.
So now, with the wedding quickly approaching, she has been left wondering whether threatening not to attend the ceremony if her son cannot wear his late girlfriend’s cufflinks was the wrong thing to do or not.
What do you think her sister means by “traditional American wedding?” How could cufflinks be distracting? Is it sweet that her son wants to wear a piece of his girlfriend at the wedding? Do you think she did the right thing standing up for her son, or did she go too far by threatening not to attend the event?
