But then, when he handed the waitress back the receipt, he decided to comment on the fact that he left his phone number.
“I hope this isn’t too forward, but I’ve really enjoyed talking to you tonight and thought you might like to get in touch if you’re interested,” he said.
Now, after he said that, the waitress took the receipt, thanked him, and smiled again. But that time, he noticed the waitress’ smile was a bit different– almost seeming kind of forced.
That pushed him to assume that she just was not interested in him. And honestly, that was fine– because he didn’t want to push the idea of a date or make the waitress uncomfortable at all. Once he and his friends left the restaurant, though, his friends called him out for leaving behind his number– accusing him of being inappropriate.
His friends claimed that he should not have put the waitress on the spot like that while she was in her place of work. They also pointed out how it wasn’t cool to hit on service workers who were simply trying to work.
“But I genuinely didn’t mean any harm, and I thought I was being polite and respectful about it,” he vented.
Nonetheless, his friends’ comments have pushed him to wonder whether leaving his phone number on the bill for his waitress was a jerky thing to do.
