He Returned His Sister’s Wedding Gift Because She Treated His Girlfriend Terribly

Weddings can, unfortunately, cause stress and tension for everyone involved. This man and his girlfriend, Naomi, whom he has been dating for over a decade, dealt with a lot of drama when his younger sister Sarah announced her engagement.
Throughout the years, Sarah and Naomi were never close, but when Sarah was in high school, Naomi helped her out with personal problems she was dealing with.
Apparently, Sarah had been so moved by this that she asked Naomi to be a bridesmaid immediately after telling him and Naomi about her engagement.
While he and Naomi hadn’t been at all expecting this, Naomi was excited because she’d never been a bridesmaid before and thought this would be her only chance. Naomi was very appreciative of the opportunity.
However, things quickly took an unfortunate turn.
“A few weeks later, Sarah posts her ‘bridesmaid proposals brunch.’ Naomi wasn’t there. Sarah never said it to either of our faces directly, but clearly, she’d changed her mind. Naomi was hurt but said she understood because she hadn’t expected the ask anyway,” he explained.
Several months later, Sarah reached out to ask Naomi to go to her bachelorette party, as well as to get ready with her friends and bridesmaids.
Naomi agreed, and then she helped Sarah find a location and place to rent for the bachelorette party. Sadly, Sarah once again left Naomi out.
“A month and a half before the wedding, I’m talking to my mom on the phone, and she mentions that Sarah’s at her bachelorette party. There was no mention of it to Naomi. Now I’m kind of angry because Naomi was clearly very hurt at two invites and then being sort of ghosted,” he shared.

Then, a week before the wedding, Naomi texted Sarah to ask about the plan for her to get ready with Sarah’s friends and bridesmaids and have her hair and makeup done. Sarah’s response was pretty shocking.
“Sarah responds, acting confused, and basically tells her nicely to just come with me,” he said.
After that, he was understandably even more infuriated with this ongoing situation of Sarah leaving Naomi out of events she’d previously invited her to.
Prior to the situation getting worse, he had bought Sarah her dream wedding gift: a very expensive baking mixer. Evidently, his mom had ruined the surprise, so Sarah already knew ahead of time that he’d bought it for her.
But he no longer wanted to give her this extravagant gift, and with all the anger he had towards Sarah, he felt like being “petty.” So, he returned the baking mixer and decided to just give Sarah a check instead.
A few days after the wedding, Sarah texted him to ask, “‘I don’t know how to ask this, but what happened to the mixer?'”
In response, he said, “‘I don’t know how to ask this, but what happened to treating my girlfriend like a human being?'”
After that, his brother, brother-in-law (Sarah’s husband), and his mom texted him and said that he was ruining Sarah’s happy time after her wedding.
Naomi admitted that she does feel “vindicated,” but she also doesn’t think he should have texted that response to Sarah.
Later, he talked with Sarah on the phone, but it didn’t help to clear things up.
According to Sarah, she’d asked Naomi to be an “honorary” bridesmaid. Sarah also claimed that Naomi told her that she worked most weekends, so she’d assumed Naomi wouldn’t be able to make the bachelorette party and that she was okay just helping to plan it instead.
But Naomi told him that at the time, she’d asked Sarah to let her know the date for the bachelorette party because she’d be able to take off work.
Also, Sarah claimed that Naomi had said that she could do her own hair, so Sarah didn’t think it was necessary for Naomi to get ready with her friends and the bridesmaids.
During the phone call, Sarah said that he ruined her honeymoon, even though she and her husband weren’t on vacation. Then, she told him that not giving her the baking mixer was rude. He ended the call by hanging up on Sarah because he was frustrated with her attitude.
Leading up to the wedding, Naomi had asked him not to bring up the drama to Sarah because she was non-confrontational.
What would you have done if you were in his shoes? Do you think he did the right thing?
