As it turned out, her troubled father and his wife had another baby together. It was born premature and with a lot of health issues. She and her husband were shocked and agreed to care for the baby, who needs their full attention.
“Three intense weeks in the NICU and then living with a very fussy little baby [has] been rough,” she explained. “Dog sitting very much slipped my mind along with everything else.”
Despite the chaos, her cousin called her and asked if the baby was ready to take her first vacation, assuming she would still bring her family to her house to dog sit later this summer.
She had to tell her cousin there was no way she could dog-sit Monty this year. The baby is still adjusting, and she has hardly had a chance to leave the house. Her cousin then offered to bring Monty to her home, but she believed having him there would be too stressful.
“She got really upset and said I have stopped caring about Monty since I got the kids, and they have replaced him,” she recalled.
“She says we have let her down, as now she has to struggle to find someone to look after her ‘baby,’ even though we had committed to doing it every year. And then she told me she’ll remember this when I ask her to babysit my kids.”
Her cousin also said she should’ve told her sooner she wouldn’t be able to watch Monty, but once again, she’s been very preoccupied mentally and physically. She doesn’t think she’s being unreasonable, but her cousin is still mad at her.
Is she being unreasonable, or does she need to set this boundary with her cousin?
